Taos lodging

We'll be in Taos first week in March, with no firm plans yet. Reasonable lodging suggestions? Probably want to be around town rather than at TSV, but open to any suggestions.

Any real bargains out there because of the economy?

Try www.orbitz.com  Last time there I stayed at the Don Fernando de Taos (ex Holiday Inn), nice place.

Almost forgot, one of the bears here owns the Indian Hills Inn. I'll try to find his nic.

There are plenty of chain motels along the main highway south of the Plaza, but since you're in Taos, why not try one of the non-chain places. I stayed at the San Jeronimo Lodge, and I found it to be quite reasonable. http://www.sangeronimolodge.com/

About 45 minutes driving from Taos Ski Valley, on a snow day, faster otherwise.

Taos is actually having a banner year because of lifting the snowboard ban, so probably not many economy based bargains.

Loads of wonderful b&bs. have an adventure like californian says. But if not....

Katchina Lodge is a Best Western, but with more character than most. It is clean, inexpensive and very convenient. They have some swankier suites/casitas in the back with wonderful views, or just plain motel type rooms depending on desire and budget.

Sagebrush Inn rooms are unique and can range from cool to funky. Great, great bar.
