To each his own but I find it fun. So do many other people.
Traditional sit down 'ski bobs' are easy to learn. No falling required unless you can't ride a bicycle. I'd still take a lesson to understand how they steer and stop.
Stand up 'peg' ski bikes require lessons. Not hard to learn but it is like learning to ski or snowboard. Under competent instruction, you won't be doing any falling. The challenge with these bikes is learning how to stop. Don't start out riding these like a bicycle or you'll find yourself in the trees.
Most ski hills don't have rental fleets. If they do have a rental fleet, they generally won't rent you one unless you take a lesson and earn a license. If you bring your own bike, they may require an inspection.
New ski bikes are not inexpensive.
