Copper Mtn snowbikers

Seems I scared some snowbikers over at Copper Mtn the other week.  Summit Daily News article.  I just came over to say "hi" and watch them drop the half pipe.

I teach snowboarding and pegger ski biking at Winter Park Resort.
What's pegger ski biking?  Glad you asked!
Ski biking at Winter Park on a powder day...ahhhh.

A husky snowboarder with glasses under her goggles and blood in her teeth approached us as we sat looking into the pipe.

Did you introduce yourself as "Jason"?  You weren't by chance dragging a chainsaw around, were you?

I forgot my chainsaw that day.  I was taking a warmup run before joining the Copper Staff Snowboard Cert 2 training clinic.

The Winter Park snowboard staff joined our Copper snowboard colleagues in teasing the "Hunter Orange" jacket clad people throughout the day.  We let them know it was easier to spot them "in the woods" while wearing those bright orange jackets.

Dumb question,  is snowbiking fun?  Is it easy?  Do you need or have to take lessons or just do it?  Or is it hard like learning snowboarding and skiing?

To each his own but I find it fun.  So do many other people.

Traditional sit down 'ski bobs' are easy to learn.  No falling required unless you can't ride a bicycle. I'd still take a lesson to understand how they steer and stop.

Stand up 'peg' ski bikes require lessons.  Not hard to learn but it is like learning to ski or snowboard.  Under competent instruction, you won't be doing any falling.  The challenge with these bikes is learning how to stop.  Don't start out riding these like a bicycle or you'll find yourself in the trees.

Most ski hills don't have rental fleets.  If they do have a rental fleet, they generally won't rent you one unless you take a lesson and earn a license.  If you bring your own bike, they may require an inspection.

New ski bikes are not inexpensive.
