The iM78 is a lot of fun on groomers, super versatile. The 4x4 is less versatile, not as good in bumps, but close to race-ski power and edgehold.  Both are fun, but different.  I would take the iM78 on a trip if I wasn't expecting much new snow, but the 4x4 is more of a quiver component. It can be alot of ski if you are at a place like Squaw where you may be skiing bumps much of the day.

The only area where I thought the 4x4 was really a step up over the Progressor is that the 172 felt like more ski than the 170 Progressor, while the 175 (for me) felt a little long. the 170 Progressor, OTOH, was snappier and a bit more carvier than the 4x4: just felt like it had a little more slalom playfullness, but not really the big-turn top end of the 4x4. Close, though. I have been skiing the past few days on the Progressor and it has worked very, very well.

Interesting that you thought the Progressor had a more slalom feel to it with them both being a 15m radius. I guess there is something to be said about the dual radius ski. I did ask in another post though but think you answered it. It seems the Progressor in a 170 is a bit more forgiving and probably more manageable and fun at slower speeds??

Picked up a pair of 4x4’s in a 172 last week and had them tuned by SkiMD before taking them out. Skied Sat and Sun. It poured Fri. afternoon into Sat. morning and then the temps dropped down into the teens. The mountain was a sheet of ice on Sat. I could not have been on a better pair of skis for these conditions but didn’t realize that until my first run. These skis are stiff and have incredible edge hold. They never once chattered or skid out on a turn. It took me a bit to trust them because the conditions were so poor but I have never been on a pair of skies with this type of tenacious grip.
Sunday was a much better day with some much needed grooming on Sat night. After having spent a full day on these skis, I was completely tuned in to their personality. Just lay them over and hang on. You need to stay on top of them but if and when you do, you are rewarded with short quick turns or longer GS turns. You can really load up the tails on these skies and they will send you across the fall line air born into your next turn (love that feeling). Did I mention that these skis are stiff with plenty of pop in the tails. I have read comments where people say that they are one trick pony’s. Based on the dimensions, (122-75-106 15m@172) I just don’t see that. I would classify this as an all mountain powerful carver that is smooth and super stable.
I ran the NASTAR course a few times. I was more than a second faster than the pacesetter. I just railed going into and could feel the acceleration coming out of every turn. The course was icy and the edge grip just inspired confidence through every turn. It was full speed ahead and they never let me down. Hell, I pulled a better score than someone on his 183 Atomics LT 11’s and he won the National championship (NASTAR) in his class at Steamboat last year.
Well, I only have two days on the skis and was all over the mountain but it was pretty groomed out due to the weather. I’m looking forward to this weekend for more powder/crud and bumps to really test theses skis out.
