That Groundhog

So Punxatawny Phil saw his shadow, "forcasting" 6 more weeks of winter.

Everyone in my office has spent the past 2 days grousing about the stupid groundhog and how winter cant be over soon enough.  I think I am the only one who is overjoyed at the "prediction".

I wake up this morning to 5" of fresh powder in my yard (this is HIGHLY unusual for PA!) and I come in to work excited.  Everyone else is miserable.  It must suck to live such a boring life that a little snow makes you annoyed.

Anyone else get grief from others about liking winter?

I love the groundhog(although he's seen his shadow like 70% of the time and we hadnt had great winters 70% of the time.)

While the rest of the neighbors are hitting the heaters, i've got the boxfans in the windows bringing the cool air in(considering its houston; its never cold to get much below 50 doing that).

You can always put more clothes on if its too cold, cant do the opposite if its too hot without getting arrested.

Im the same way. While all my friends are begging for summer, Im praying for snow. They tell me Im crazy, I tell them I enjoy skiing/riding too much.

And like skicougar said, you can atleast regulate your body temp in winter, but summer, theres only so much you can take off.

The majority of those with whom I work hate winter. They refuse to shovel after a fresh snowfall. Then, it sets up, gets driven on, rained on, refreezes, etc... until it's several inches of ice and debris. Then, on a sunny saturday, they'll get the pick-axes out and spend the entire day hacking away at the dreaded ice.

My driveway is always spotless. Snow removal in general doesn't really exist in Japan. Ice removal does. That's my biggest winter culture shock over here. Why they prefer to trudge through it for months, then waste the first sunny weekend hacking away instead of an hour of shoveling after the storm is completely beyond me.

Wow, Samurai, coming from someone like me who shovels snow and embraces every snow fall, this culture difference makes me shake my head.  I bet that 'they' are amazed at your clean steps and driveway.

LOL Sam;

It seems a bit ironic that they will spend years and years dragging rakes around a sand pit just to make a design but won't spend 10 minutes to shovel driveways.

Never thought about it like that... touche.

The funny thing is how many shovels you see outside people's doors.
