We arrived in Breck just after Christmas. The snow was good, once last Dec was a snowy month there. Although the lines at the lifts were huge, the skiing was great - especially the Imperial Chair (Peak 8 and 7). Keystone didn't have such good snow, too icy. And there is an atmosphere of recklessness on the slopes, or maybe its just an impression, but a very beautiful setting. Staying in Breck is perfect, great town, great food, free bus everywhere and beautiful mountain - Fireside Inn was tops, highly recommend it.
After New Years at the Breckenridge Brewery we hit the slopes in Vail - from Jan.3 to 9, and that was a blast. We got 40 inches of snow that week! Blue Sky Basin and the back bowls left us speechless, Vail is indeed HUGE. And Beaver Creek for a day was awesome, totally worth the trip. In Vail we stayed at Park Meadows Lodge, great deal, very well located, right by the Cascade Lift (no lines) and fine staff.
Then Utah. Having a place to stay in Park City made it easy to come and go, we skiied Alta, Park City, Deer Valley, Snowbird and Solitude - the Cottonwood Canyons are amazing, really, really beautiful, and it feels its the closest you'll get to being only with locals. Plus, Alta being only for skiers is a totally different experience. Unfortunately there was a two week break in the snowfall - two weeks of sun and no snow. But when everywhere else it was already icy and even raining - Snowbird was the best option, the snow up there is very good.
Just in case you're interested, one of the best deals of our trip were skis purchased at Level Nine Sports in SLC. They sell online too and have great deals on last years models..
Moab was unbelievable, completely deserted (lliterally) and empty due to it being the low season. We did Arches National Park and Canyonlands and had Delicate Arch only for ourselves.
The Epic Pass and EpicSki made our trip much easier and fun - tks for all your help with tips and suggestions!
