Marker Baron bindings

I mounted the Barons to my Black Diamond Havoc skis and took them out four times so far where I've skied a variety of terrain in different conditions. First I took them to Alta to get a true feel for how they perform going downhill. The Barons were awesome on a powder day. Stiff, stable and precise, they skied as well as any alpine binding I've used. In fact, the difference was stark in comparison to my old Silverettas as I felt the bindings were allowing me to ski more aggressively.

Later, I took them in the backcountry and skied on everything from low-angle trees to steep, ski-width couloirs. Skinning uphill, the bindings were smooth, but noticeably heavier than my old setup. They were, however, more stable as my boots felt like they were locked in better, especially when making sharp switchbacks on steep terrain.

I do, however, have gripes about these bindings.

You can read my full review here.

Overall, I like them. My biggest gripe is switching from uphill to downhill mode. . .

I've had some Dukes a couple seasons now and really like them a lot but will probably replace them with the lighter Barons in another season or two. I also don't need a 16 DIN binding but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate their "bomberness". Nuthin' like that closing the door on a Mercedes Benz feeling when you click in!
I also have had the frustrations of the brakes not locking the skis together. This problem is certainly due to having the 110mm brakes, as I do and appears you do, on not so wide skis like your Havocs and my Pocket Rockets. I just ordered some 90mm's to replace them from Ptex1 here on epicski and he agrees this should fix the problem. (and I'm thinkin' they might even be a gram or two lighter )
He is having a very interesting promotion right now - great guy to deal with!

I got some baron's about a week ago and took them out on a weekend with no new snow so I hit up the terrain park. I checked out the toe glider after the second day and both of them already had formed cracks, and one was already broken.

I know they weren't designed to be ridden in the park but I didn't take any hard falls and I released, when I should have, only twice.

I probably should have gotten the duke, 5'9" 155 agressive skier, but the parts that broke were plastic on the duke too.

Has anyone, or has anyone heard of someone experiencing this type of problem with their barons or dukes?

Not good! You're not that heavy. And after only 2 days. Any chance they were adjusted up against the boot sole to hard?

I did mount them myself but when following the instructions while mounting you have to be able to fit a half folded piece of paper (the strip of paper is provided) between the glider and the boot, and be able to pull out the paper after the boot has been clicked in.(kind of hard to explain)

I did this and dialed in the foward pressure too, but....

Sorry for the hijack....

I have heard about this problem from others and the recurring theme is that the bindings that broke were not mounted professionally. . .
