Rain at Deer Valley. Such fun!

Skied Deer Valley today (1/24/09) and it rained all day. Turned the snow into slop, and we were soaked by lunchtime. A new, interesting experience to say the least (new to me as this never happens in Utah in January!)

Welcome to skiing the Cascades! You'll survive. Wet, rained on snow has its own special charm.

Sounds like a typical New England ski day.

I was at Park City that day and I, too, wondered what was going on. Early in the morning it was raining at the bottom but snowing at the top of Jupiter Bowl. However, by early afternoon it was just wet slop everywhere. My first experience with these conditions. I think I prefer the more typical conditions that Utah is known for.

was it snowing or raining over in LCC and BCC?

You're really gonna love it when the temps go back down. A little dust on crust will make the wet conditions seem like nirvana.

Snowing in SLC now after rain/sleet this morning. If predicted snowfall amounts are met or exceeded then I think it will be deep enough for dust on crust to not be a problem.

Hmmm... from reading these forums I was under the impression that it ONLY rains in the winter on the east coast, and that is was IMPOSSIBLE for it to rain west of the Mississippi between December and April. Interesting............

Um, DV is the Rockies, not the cascades, just fyi.

I left Steamboat (after 6 days at SLC) last Wednesday being pissed that the weather coming in looked good after 10 days of bluebird - sorry for your misfortune, but glad at least I had bluebird.

Hey, it could be worse - you could be on least coast "packed powder".

I'm pretty certain he met to convey "welcome to my world" as he's a PNW skier and quite a good one from what I hear

So far Alta has received 18" in the last 24 hours and it is still snowing and expected to snow for the next day or two. Dust on crust shouldn't be a problem. But, I will stay on "my side" of the Wasatch and stick to BCC and LCC as they are much closer to my house. My friend in Park City can come here instead of me going up there for lesser conditions.

Good news for you all. We're expecting new snow beginning tomorrow, but it will be coming in regular, smaller amounts. We'll have to deal with the dust on crust for a few days. Better than hard snow, though.

You probably had that whole place to yourself. I can't imagine DV skiers going out in the rain.

I skied Solitude on the 24th - heavy snow, but still about 5" of fresh snow. Skied Alta the last 2 days and have been skiing in snow up to my knees all day long. Baldy, devils castle have not yet opened - probably at least 3 feet in there waiting for some customers!

I also saw 3! snowboarders poaching runs off wildcat today - the nerve.
