telemark or cross country

Could someone recommend a ski that could be used for both Maine snowmobile trails and untracked areas? I am thinking of skiing in on snowmobile trails to some steep power lines areas and getting some turns in on the powder. but also want to use this ski to cross country ski on snowmobile trails.

A rugged touring rig with patterned bases. Fischer Outtabounds, Atomic Chugaches, Karhu XCD Guides come to mind with teleboots and bindings.

I hate making turns on a fish scale ski. For something like that I use a really skinny "gliding skin". These are like climbing skins but only one inch wide. They peel off for the turns.

OK, thanks for the recommendations. Is seems like you can mount either tele bindings or cross country/bc on the snowbound crown, what about the boundless crown?

guess I am confused about what type of bindings/boots to go with. tele or cross country/bc?

If your priority is decent support to make turns, a telemark rig is the way to go, IMO. There are those who manage to make turns with a BC-NNN boot and binding set up. The touring set up (free pivot binding) and weight of this approach is appealing.

How they do it remains a mystery.

I agree with Alpinord: if the Tele boots fit and long tromps on the flats don't give you blisters, they are the way to go. The more snow there is the less glide you'll get. On the really good days you'll get the good turns with a real tele setup, and won't miss the track oriented gear much.

Thanks for your replies! I bought the Fischer snowbound skis with Rottefella NNN Magnum bindings and Rossignol BC7 boots. Now I just can't wait to actually try them out!

Careful with that rear tendon Velcro, you can really build up a blister there.
