The best thing about the ESA academies is all the wonderful people we get to meet. The worst thing is that I MISS my group after it's all over. Thanks gang for all the energy and enthusiasm. We "got away with something" again!!!

Sadness and joy - sadness that I'm here, not there. Joy - that you guys had the best of the best, in coaches and conditions.

Next year - I SWEAR!!!

Folks, this is THE BEST skiing experience most of us can expect in our lifetimes. In no other way could the likes of you and me ski with this "College of Cardinals" of ski coaches . . .

Netx year . . .

Bumpdad, you were missed. I was hoping to get a chance to meet up with you.

Skierhj, why didn't you PM one of us and get together for drinks or a few turns at the end of the day. Would have loved to meet you.

Next time, eh?

Well, Marcia and I are home - safe and sound. Curiously, we have been experiencing a snow storm in the Boston area, and I had to shovel (well, snowblow) about 7 inches off my driveway today. Once again, ESA was a resounding success for us -- we both advanced and became more confident with refined skills.

Robin Barnes was fantastic as a coach as usual. Even when I was feeling exhausted, her enthusiasm and ability to get pointers through my thick skull amazed me. Marcia couldn't stop talking about how great Charlie MacArthur was as a coach.

One of the big pluses for us was getting together with old friends from previous events and meeting new friends that we will hopefully see in the future.

Although the attendance was a little lower compared to the past two academys at Snowmass, I think that the more intimate feel of the camp was great. An additonal bonus was having Joan, Phil, Chris, and David tagging along with the various groups and helping out where needed.

Big thanks go to nolo and Trekchick for their organization, to Weems for hosting and leading the group, to dchan and cgeib for their patient videography, and to all the coaches and speakers for putting on a great event!

The stickers, hats, and raffle were great too -- I won the tuning kit from Alpinord -- thanks, Terry!

I want to first of all thank all the coaches and administrators for the warm hospitality. This was a very well thought out and successful event. I was very impressed when I read and heard all the coaches that were attending. You see these were not just some Ski coaches that Weems went and got these are some of the best Ski instructors in the Country heck they teach Ski instructors normally!!!! I think that is what makes this event so special!!!

If any of you are interested in attending a future Epic Event and just want to ask some questions to a Virgin Epic Attendee. I will be glad to answer them.Just PM me!!!

I want to say a special Thank you to Squatty my coach for really taking the time and having alot of patience with me to learn all of the Skills I needed to get to the next level!!! I not only have a fellow redneck for a Ski coach I have another Redneck Friend as well. Suranuff huh Squatty!!!

I also want to Thank Trish (Treck Chic) for making me and my wife feel so welcome even though she was a non skier. She is now actually considering letting Squatty get her a personal Coach for next year so she can learn how to Ski. He must have really made a big impression on her for that.

Oh yea and I can't forget my Buddy PJ (Ragin Cajun) for recommending this School to me even though he stood me up and got sick. I hate you could'nt come I know you wanted too. I am sure we will Shred some powder together soon. You were right Cajun I had a blast and can't wait till next year!!!!

To all my new friends and fellow Ski partners Judy and Vi my inspirations !!! Will the cool and risky guy, Quan and Angela two of the nicest people I have ever met .I look forward to skiing with each one of you sometime in the future,

There were two foxes watching Robin's group frolic in the gully. Binder was close enough to give you their gender. The good vet claimed to be concerned about their health, since they were pretty unconcerned about us sharing their space. It was a special moment.

There were definitely many foxes skiing around as well.

Glad to hear you got the kit bbinder. Give a shout if you have questions.

For a sideline view: along with Dan Egan, it was a treat to spend a little time with Robin and Squatty and of course Weems. All consummate pros with a deep passion and knowledge for the sport and teaching. The over all focused and positive atmosphere can only improve one's skills and passion for the sport. If you can pull it off, you should definitely try to participate at least once at ESA.

Nice pics. Like that fox. Sorry I missed ESA this year. It always is a great course. Top notch instructors again this year. Looks like conditons were fine. No new snow for the week, but great weather and great fun (I'm sure). Did any of you get the shims from Mosh? They do work very well if you need them. I hope to be there next year, but couldn't swing it this year with another little one on the way, due next month. Waiting for the video montage.

Saying that I had a wonderful time at ESA Aspen Snowmass is a huge understatement. I still can't get over the amount of improvement we all made with our skiing in such a short time. Especially after the first two days, our entire group made such strides it was hard to believe.

I had a blast meeting everyone and can't wait to do it again.

Here I am before my final run of the week, I wish we'd never left:

What happened to the fox? Was it injured?
Export to Wiki

No, it was not injured. I was concerned when I saw it just lying there unperterbed by the skiers whizzing past it, and I snuck up on it. FWIW, I am a veterinarian, am vaccinated against rabies, am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, and I took a healthy estimate on how close I could get to it and still ski away in case it decided to charge.

There was another fox on the other side of the snowbank. After we watched for several minutes, the two started playing and then ran away together.

Interesting. It was probably conditioned to the presence of skiers or people were feeding them. Not a good thing as they can get hit pretty easily.

Anyways, sounds like you guys had a fun time.
