Anyone been to Gressoney, Italy?

I am visiting my Aunt for a week and wondering if anyone has been to this resort and what it's like.

Also I don't have a car so I will be relying on public transport. So any information on public transport from Ivrea (I am staying in Bienca, Ivrea so a wee bit far from Turino) would be a great help.

Cheers!

Yup. Nice area, right splat in the middle of the Monterossa complex (note that there is no longer a cable car up to Punto Indran, which kind of sucks). There are three villages at Gressoney, with the lowest one the most charming/least convenient, the highest one the most sterile/best access. The one in the middle is so-so all around. There's an awful lot of skiing to be done in this complex, even without Punto Indran.

Easily the most convenient resort in the area if you don't have a car is Pila. You could also ski Cervinia/Zermatt relatively easily with Ivrea as your base. Probably La Thuile would be doable too.

Here's the timetable from Ivrea to Aosta. A gondola runs right from the town of Aosta to the ski area, Pila, above. Very cool. I'm guessing that would be your only pure train option (hell, it's only about an hour's ride!), but there may be busses from Ivrea to other resorts.

Pila is an excellent suggestion. I've looked at the website, so easy to follow and great prices. Very impressed! I can see myself kicking back up there especially as Aosta is a beautiful city.

I will be in Tignes with 8 other mates 9-16 then training it to Ivrea 16-28th. Also I will be experiencing the Orange Festival for the first time. Exciting month!

I've already done Zermatt which was brilliant but I like seeing other places which I haven't visited yet. Only reason why I chose Gressoney is because I went up there with my aunt early last spring and it was stunning.

It is cool indeed at Gressoney. Pila is very different but cool too, and stress-free. The Italian Alps have had a bumper snow year so far, so hard to go wrong. Avoid weekends if you can.

Cheers, Luckily I will be spending a weekend at the Orange Festival in Ivrea (Epic 3 day battle of throwing oranges at everyone...Looking forward to it! BRING IT ON!!!)
