Where to learn Snowboarding NY?

I have a week when I can't ski.
Anyone know the cheapest place to get a rental, lift ticket, and lesson in snowboarding, within 3 hours of NYC?

I assume you mean never ever? In Central NY, you can pick up a voucher at McDonald's and Dicks for a learn to ski or board package (called Mountains of Fun I think). The package is a 3-time offer: $20 1st day for Bunny Slope, $20 and $25 for the entire area on the 2nd and 3rd day respectively. Lift, lessons and equipment all included.

Thank you.
My Hunter pass is no good from 12/25/08 to 1/1/09; I'm thinking of learning to ride during that blackout period. Snowboards look like fun.
Unfortunately, the Mountains of Fun program is NOT available during the same blackout period.
Windham has a rental ticket and lesson program for $76. I may go for that. I think I can learn to ride a snowboard in one day; or at least figure out if I like it.

Yeah, that's not good for this week. They do offer this similar package for $21 more.

I could easily afford the $76 package at Windham; but temps in the 40s and 50s, with rain, are predicted for the coming week.
I'm thinking that during the dead of winter, if we even get a real winter, I'll go someplace like Jiminy on a Sunday twilight, rent boots and board, get a lift ticket, and teach myself to ride.
I could drive over to the Catskills afterwards, stay in a motel, and get to Hunter to ski, bright and early the next day.

I'd think about a helmet and impact shorts too. Maybe some Advil too.

I teach snowboarding and pegger ski biking at Winter Park Resort.
What's pegger ski biking?  Glad you asked!
Ski biking at Winter Park on a powder day...ahhhh.

One place includes a helmet in the rental package for beginners. If I go, I'll use the helmet they offer.
I have a turtle fur hood that I wear under my hat and goggles already; it was designed for use with a helmet.

So yeah, the thread's a year old, but hell, I'm still curious. Phlogiston, how'd your day of snowboarding go!? Still doing it?

More Ovaltine, please!

No place cheaper and easier to ski/board at than Tuxedo Ridge in Tuxedo NY.  45min from Manhattan.  Was there yesterday, fantastic place for a beginner, no lift lines, they had plenty of snow, family oriented, a very pleasant experience.

I was going to try snowboarding during the weekfrom 12/25 to 1/1, when my midweek pass is no good.

The weather was too warm that week, so I didn't go.

Maybe next Christmas.
