Skiing in NZ, Australia, or SA in Jul and also bike?

Are there any ski resorts akin to Zermatt in the summer where you can go, ski but also bike in reasonably warm temperatures afterwards? I'm looking for a long holiday this July and I'd like steeper terrain compared to Zermatt, but also the ability to bike, play tennis, and swim. Don't know if any of the southern hemisphere ski resorts offer that in (their) winter...

For steeps, vertical and reliable snow, you would probably want to look at Chile. I've skiied and surfed on the same day, but you won't find anything like Zermatt in Australia or New Zealand.

Don't look to Chile for steeps. Las Lenas in Argentina is probably the best for that. July is also the local peak holiday season in South America and everything is busy & more expensive. August is more likely to have reliable base depths.

My South American experience is in Chile. The weather is fairly moderate down in the flats but you're not going to ski at high elevation and then get down to the flats to do something else outdoors in the same day.

Not looking to surf. Is it all accessible within the grounds where you sleep and are close to the gondola? Or do I need a car?

Plenty of steeps, double black diamonds and triple black diamonds (rated suicidal). No gondolas! Good mountainbiking around the South Island but not warm in winter!

Club fields are great (also add Broken River), but they sure ain't Zermatt.

Also, July skiing in the Southern Hemisphere is early winter and hence hit and miss. Best time for Australian and New Zealand is August and early September.

We skied Craigieburn a few years ago. Cool little place. It's basically just a big unpisted bowl. Great in good conditions. Although the opposite also applies.

It's about as different from Zermatt as you could possibly get!

O, dude, just go to queenstown. Its such a great place to hang out, great mountain biking, beautiful, awesome skiing at the remarkables and coronet peak, and an hour away from Wanaka where you can ski Treble Cone, Cardrona, and Snow park (huge park only mountain). its also just a great place to be. even on a day off, i guarantee you wont go bored.

i dont know about swimming, i think there might be a large indoor pool center, or maybe your hotel will have a pool. there are probably tennis courts around, im sure you can find some. look into it, its a great place, i absolutely loved it

Queenstown (NZ) have just opened a new acquatic centre, so it would suit. Wanaka only have a 25 metre indoor pool. If you want to do outdoor activites, September has nice spring days that would be good for mountain biking, but then you are going to get spring skiing. Most reliable ski month is August. In NZ during winter all the towns are below the snow level, so tennis courts don't need to be covered, but you'd have to find someone willing to partner you.

In either Chile or NZ you want August for snow reliability. For mixed sports NZ is better because the drives up to the ski areas are much longer in Chile. I will say that we saw excellent surfing in Chile, but that was during a daylong coastal tour so we did not have time for my surfing son to stop and try it himself.
