Oxygen Snowboard

I am looking for a snowboard for my Dad. He is a skier, and always has been, but he wants to try his hand at boarding. He doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money, but I don't want him to get a cheap piece of junk. I've found an Oxygen snowboard and Rossignal bindings on Craigslist for $45. Does anyone know anything about Oxygen snowboards? What can you tell me about them?

Cheap pieces of junk. Made by the same dudes who do Lamar I believe. It's a price point board. At $45 though, if it's in good shape it would do the job. That's barely any money spent if he doesn't like it. If he does, then he can spend the money to upgrade to a better setup.

I would rent first and see if it's for him first.

I've known too many people who've gone out and bought top-of-the line gear without having taken a lesson first. And the gear they bought was for upper level riding - not learning.

Rent quality gear and sign up for lessons....then buy.

Lamar boards are junk.

I'm guessing that killclimbz has seen the board that you are talking about. I could not find it in any of the Idaho craigslist listings.

Oxygen as a brand was simply Atomic's snowboard division for a while.

While they did have pricepoint boards as killclimbz has pointed out, they also had some really high end stuff. I was under the impression that they were still doing race boards across the pond, but I cannot confirm that. I have not seen any new stuff from them in at least a year. The rest of their lines were converted to Atomic years ago now.

I don't know about the connection between Lamar and Oxygen.

Atomic is a different story. They are quality boards.
