Good Ski Shop around Boulder,CO?

I have a new pair of skis (my first) that I need to have the bindings mounted on and I'm assuming a fresh coat of wax before taking them out for the first time. I don't really want to get them tuned before I check 'em out on the slopes.

I'm wondering if I even need to really be concerned at all about taking them to a great shop since it isn't really complicated work that has to be done. Any suggestions for places around Boulder, CO?

And yes, I do realize I could probably do all this stuff myself, but right now I'd rather trust more experienced hands with my skis. Eventually I'll work those skills into my repertoire, but that'll have to be at a later date. Thanks for any help.

I think Christy sports or Colorado Ski and golf should be up to the task.

yea. just go to chrity sports, its right in Boulder and wont be expensive at all. The closest CO ski and Golf is in Arvada, I think they have a better idea of what they are doing but if all you need is a mount and wax I don't think its even worth the extra drive if you're already in Boulder.

Yeah. Go to Peter at Alpine Base & Edge. Do this for these reasons:
1) It's a small, local shop that's run by the owner;
2) He or his well-trained techs will do the work (not some stoned high-school kid); and
3) Then you can ask about his great free tuning clinics, so you can learn to do the basics yourself (if you're so inclined).

Congratulations on your first pair of skis! What kind did you pick up?

PS: Don't feel like a gaper because you're taking your skis to a shop. Very few of us on here would be able to safely and accurately mount and set our own bindings. We ALL leave that to the professionals.

PPS: If you bring them a six-pack from Liquor Mart (across the street), they'd really appreciate it. Baring beer is good alpine etiquette.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the quick responses. I really appreciate it. I'm totally sold on Alpine Base & Edge. I love giving my business to small local shops over chains. Great tip on the free tuning clinics too, I'll have to check those out.

I went with K2 Apache Raiders. I would've liked to have stepped up to the Recons which I used a couple times last season, but I was caught with a window to buy skis while I had money and the Raiders were what I could afford. I figure they'll be a good first pair of skis since I'm kind of in a tweener stage of my skiing ability.

Thanks so much for the quick responses, I really appreciate it. I'm definitely sold on Alpine Base & Edge. I love to give my business to the small locally owned places over chains. Great tip on the free tuning clinics, I'll definitely have to check those out. It pretty much sounds like this is exactly the kind of shop I was looking for when I started this thread. Great job.

Boulder Ski Deals is the Boulder outlet of CO ski and Golf.
