2009 Fischer Race SC Pro

Has anyone had the chance to demo the new 2009 Fischer Race SC Pro's? I see that it has changed significantly from years past, new side wall construction and shape. I was wondering how it compares vs the Worldcup SC and previous Race SC models. From what I can tell its just a slightly softer and wider version of the current WC SC with a Rail Flex binding? I'm looking for an all mountain SL ski, this could be it? It should be more versatile and forgiving when compaired to the WC SC and provide more grip and stability when compared to the previous Race SC!

Now that I've sold my RX8, I have to search out a worthy replacement!

I think these would make a great replacement! I still have my RX8's in 175cm but would like something shorter. This new beefier Race SC Pro in 170cm, just might be the ticket!

I've thought about but have yet to see one. From what I'm reading it sounds likits more of an intermediate ski?

I was reading about it today and kind of drew the same conclusion.

I saw a pair of Grooves, they're not bad looking ski's. I spoke with someone who demo'ed them and he didn't like them and much prefered the 4x4's.

The Grooves reminded me of and are very similar to prior years Rossignol 9S Oversize skis.

I skied the Rossignol Zenith Z11 Mutix with the interchangable stiffeners. Fun ski that carved very well with the softer arms. I didn't try the stiffer arms. Carving radius was comparable to a slalom race ski without the punishing rebound energy. I skiied it all day and wasn't too wiped by the end of the day. I tried the ski in light expert bumps. The ski kicked me around a bit until I made some balance adjustments. After that I found I could carve my turns most of the way around the moguls vs. skidding with my X-Screams.

I also like the Fischer RX8's, Dynastar OmeGlass WC, and Atomic M11. All good carving skis. Some more damp than others but all hold an edge pretty well assuming good technical ability on the part of the human.

I have the RX8 in 175cm, great skis! I'm looking for a shorter length, tighter radius ski but not hyper or twitchy. Something easy going that I can enjoy skiing slowly with my 7 year old that will still rip when I get the chance to open it up. Especially at some of our smaller kid friendly ski areas. I have plenty of race ski's, thats not what I'm looking for in this selection. I'm starting to warm up a little to the Contact Groove for this particular need?

Search around for a pair of Dynamic VR17's. They're cheap and an awesome ski if you can find them. I have them in 173cm and use them as an all-around EC ski. Shorter lengths would really rock tight turns.

I took a run on my friend's Fischer SC's earlier today

Here's my history: I demoed Fischer's WC SL ski last year, and found it way too much for me. I don't know anything about construction of either ski, so I can't help you out there.

That said, I loved the SC. It was still a beast, but it was a much tamer beast than the WC SL, and depending on personal preference it might be your all mountain slalom ski.

Any questions I'd be glad to answer

Did you ski the Worldcup SC or the Race SC, both are easier than the Worldcup SL's with the Race SC being the tamer of the three?

I bought a pair of the Dynastar Contact Grooves (172cm's) with the gaurantee that if I don't like them, I can return for a full refund! Nothing to lose, i'll give them a shot. I'm having trouble finding the Fischer Race SC Pros in lengths longer than 155cm, I wanted a 170cm.

I havge the RC4 Race SC Pros in a 170 and they rock. I had the RC4's before from 06 (Not the FIS approved) and the new ones are a better ski in my opinion. They go nuts on groomers and just fly. In my opinion being an ex racer of all disciplines these are my all time favourite piste ski.

I was lucky enough to demo some in NZ in August (skis come out earlier down under) and bought them afterwards from the shop, apparently there were only 3 pairs in Australia and NZ at that time.

I would recommend them to anyone that wants to go fast, very fast... and turn short / long whatever you want they do it all on the piste. excellent fun ski and not too hard to work if thats a concern. Oh and the rail flex bindings are awesome

So how are the Contacts working out compared to the RX8's? Why didn't you try the RX8 in a 170? :-)? I have the RX8 in a 170 and a 175 and they do ski differently. The 170 is much turnier.

The Contact Grooves are nice ski's but lack the fun factor. I do own a pair of RX8's in 175cm, at 225lbs I think I would over power this ski in a 170cm. I'm ultimately looking for a ski in 170cm with a shorter radius that is also easy and forgiving when skiing with small children but can still rip when I get the chance to open it up. The new 2009 Race SC has has the worldcup construction with less metal and is softer flexing and more forgiving yet beefier than the RX8. I'm thinking it would be a great ski for what I'm looking for in this particular ski.

Anyone know where I can demo the Fischer RC4 Race SC Pro in PA, MD, WV?? They sound like a perfect ski for what I dig most...high speed groomers, variable turn radius, hold well, but good for those of us who are agressive with less power....

Was at a shop in NH the other day and was comparing the RACE SC with the RX8. The Race SC is quite a bit softer in the tip and tail than the RX8. Being a softer flexing ski, why do you think that it's beefier.
I would like to demo a pair though. They seem like they woul be super turney but no question that there is a fairly low speed limit on these.

The previous generation of Race SC's had the same construction as the RX8. The 2009 Race SC has the beefier side wall construction of the Worldcup SC but with less metal. I haven't been able to find the new 2009 Race SC in a length over 155cm locally to do a direct comparison.

I was at Rodger's in Lincoln New Hampshire. I was comparing the 09 SC to the 09 RX Fire 8

I agree with Compo Rocks...these are excellent skis. I have recently bought a pair of 2009 MY with Fischer Z11 RF2 bindings in 170cm. I was looking at RX8s in 170 cm but when a deal came up on ebay.de I had to purchase these skis purely on the comments on this forum and other sites with no demo.

Last week I skied 242kms in 6 days in the Italian Dolomites and these skis never ceased to amaze me and build my confidence. I skied mostly on fast red and some blacks and blues and this ski is fast and stable in the carve and in any radius. The edges are great and when you push into the ski during the turn you can feel them pushing back with some energy. As they weigh only 9kg with bindings, you don't feel tired skiing them all day. I'm in my 30's and still fairly fit, 82kg / 180lbs and 182 / 6' 1. I did find they maxed out at arouund 90KPH / 55 MPH see...that me skiing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TJK3PuSpyU

I fastest I saw that day was 102KPH but on a normal slope their wasn't a single person who went past me all week. I also have a three year old son who started skiing this year (Fischer RC4 skis :o) ) and I could use these same skis for slow speed training. I can't recommend these skis enough for anyone who wants to stay on piste!

Cheers Simon

I'm considering purchasing the 2009 RC4 SC PRO and your comments have been helpful. I'm 5'11 - 83 Kg / 182 lbs and an advanced skier. I am undecided about which length 165 cm or 170 cm would be more suitable. As the maximum length of the ski is 170 cm and has to cater for heavier people then me, would it be more advisable to purchase the 165 cm ?

I have the 2007 Volkl Allstar Titanium 168 cm, and I'm looking for a ski which is more flexible and nimble in steep or narrow places. I realise the 170 cm would be great for stability and make the ski more of an all mountain option, though do you think for me, it would sacrifice its maneuverability  ?
