"Ski Patrol" series on TruTV

HI skiers,

I was flipping through the channels on TV this evening and stumbled across the very end of an advertisement on TruTV about a new series starting October 20, called "Ski Patrol." Do any of you know any more about this? I assume at least some people on these boards have actually been involved in the filming of this.

Just curious (and I chose to post this in the "General" forum instead of the "Patrol Shack" since that's more a business forum for patrollers -- right?)...

Cheers,

I heard it was done at two ski areas, one being PA's own meat market, Blue Mountain.

I will have to keep an eye for it.

From TV.com:

"Ski Patrol follows men and women who work in some of the deadliest environments in the country. From dangerous rescues to upholding the law with unruly partying snowboarders and dynamiting snowdrifts for the slopes, the Ski Patrol show viewers everything that goes into making the slopes safe."

Those pesky snowboarders are at it again, with all the snow drifts around they need to learn to be carefull!!

Last April I skied with some people from PA at Mad River Glen. One of the guys was an exceptional skier and he was telling me about the filming of this program. He is head of the ski patrol (?). Aparently there is plenty of carnage for a TV series. I'll be watching for him - this guy can really ski.

Wow - from the extremely dangerous slopes of Blue Mountain to cracking down on wasted snowboarders to dynamiting those pesky snow drifts this looks like it could be the lamest "I work outdoors" reality series yet.

From what Mapquest tells me, Blue is under an hour from the Jersey border, sounds dangerous enough to me.

Plus if the parking lot is loaded with PA drivers, it's got to be a very dangerous.

Using explosives on snow drifts sounds pretty damn dangerous to me too.

Sounds like a good comedy of errors.

Granted the setting could be better, but it will still provide pre season stoke. And, since my non-skiing wife will probably also be watching I'd rather it be someplace anti gnar. Otherwise it will be a challenge to get her to allow the kids to ski. I've already caved to the no trampolines and no dirt bikes . BB guns-when they are a bit older and skiing=already been once- are not issues (yet)

I've updated the PVR to record this instead of that lame terminator series. I thought I'd like Sarah Conner Chronicles, but really haven't so far. So, Ski Patrol it shall be for at least a week..
I'd rather be skiing

It's also filmed at Crystal or Baker or something. I don't think they are filming faux avy work at Blue.

You can spot the episodes that were shot at Blue ....

The Great Chase

.... "snowboard punks wreak havoc on the mountain .. "

And that was during the instructors ITC ... it's a jungle out there ... be safe ...

Final Test

......."the search for a deadly weapon has the mountain on edge .."

This has "South Philly" written all over it ..

Who Are You?

The smoke will clear and in an hour or two you'll remember, now get in the car, Mom said to be home for pot roast by seven!

Panic On The Ski Slope

Go ahead and make fun of Jersey Girls but if you ever saw a Sou' Philly doll with the nine inch nails ... frozen in her tracks ... good, she's safer that way.

A drunk .... in the bar .... at Blue .... ???? Say it ain't so Phil! Blue has the bar positioned so that you have to .... have to ... force your way past the drunks every time you come in the freakin' door.

Just the one on the left? All of the expressions are great!! from left to right:

"I'm the man and I know it, if I thought you'd be able to lift it, I'd make you go grab my jock strap"

"Is this over with yet? I'm turtleheading bad!!!"

"those bastard producers, why am I the only woman stuck with these guys"

Not sure i can even comment on this guy, but the separation of stache, soul patch and side burn is awesome. i would respect this guy's authoritayyy

"Dude I'm so gonna get a prom date now that this show is on"

That being said if I were any of these patrollers I'd want to kick the ever living crap out of the photographer/editor who decided to go with these pictures. The expressions are pure cheese.

I'm definitely going to get the DVR rocking for this show

Yea, the episode descriptions sound pretty retarded too. Warning those pesky slowboarders seems to be the most common activity. This should have been filmed at Jackson/Bridger/Highlands/Moonlight and then it would have been awesome. The couple episodes filmed at Crystal sound all right though.

Yea, well, I don't feel too dirty since I'm only six years older than her.

If she patrols at Blue Mnt shes probably not my type anyways.

I'm 13 older and I don't feel dirty at all (well for this at least). She looks "racery" to me.

Blue Mountain?! I mean yeah they have some brats (mostly locals) and injuries there but uhh... It's not very big and it's solid ice much of the time. They get mostly Philly/South Jersey people there. Did Blue Mountain pay them to come there? Why didn't the filming crew go to a real ski area? They just didn't want to go that far from NYC I guess.

Why didn't they go over to Camelback? More crowded and more north Jersey/NYC jerks.

Great patrollers they have there at Blue Mountain. I had a minor wipeout once as a beginner on a beginner trail about 10 years ago because I was spooked by a snowmobile coming up an already narrow and icy trail. A ski patroller who happened to be nearby yells something at me. I couldn't tell what so I yelled "What?" back at him and this time I hear him clearly.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SKI TAKE A LESSON.

Real helpful for a beginner to hear. You guys have lessons at 7PM Einstein?

OMG...I just learned about this show.

I just imagine the conference room with a bunch of guys saying, "Yeah, we'll film this at Blue Mt. It'll be hard core!"

(Anyone ever catch the reality series about the K-9 patrollers at Whistler?)

Gee Neuonix ..... our last lesson for beginners was at 6:15, and ol' Uncle Yuki would have given you a private even after that.

What were you doing the rest of the day?

When you wipe out .... at night .... not knowing how to ski ... blame it on the mountain!

Priceless.

BTW, I'm not a fan of Blue. For that matter, it's almost time for the phone to ring with the annual hustle .... I think they offer a bounty for other instructors to recruit .... I even spice up the refusal with a few words not fit for a family forum ....

So do you feel it is in the patroller's job description to discourage beginners by mocking them when they fall? Is it in the job description to turn away your future skiiers by making them feel inadequate? I was a beginner skiing on a beginner trail. I think it's pretty obvious why I crashed. Is that not part of being a beginner skiing on a beginner trail? Should beginners just not ski at all? Sounds like a good policy to me. Let me know how that works out for you.

To give full disclosure, I guess I was working on my parallel turns, trying to get out of a snowplow, having already had the beginner lesson a few weeks previously. I guess you shouldn't ever try to improve and crash in a controlled way when you fail.

Actually I had a lesson a few years ago at Blue (a few years after that). It was a waste of time. The instructor also had a serious attitude and was not very helpful. I wouldn't ever take another lesson there. With your attitude, I can see why I wouldn't want to take lessons there.
