To everyone who has expressed interest in this thread or who has personally e-mailed me, I apologize for the delay in responding. Balancing school and life is really taking it's toll on me at the moment and I haven't had the time to create the necessary responses here (or even go skiing...).

Please stay tuned for more information.

Long Post

Yes, I have got mine. I got to ski them in 20" of powder when I was at Taos. I had no problems with them, and the decent pics I have are in the Taos TR thread.
Kyle did a great job on these. I had not skied powder that deep before, so I was learning to ski in powder, and deal with new skis at the same time. It was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. Thanks Simon for being patient enough to give me some pointers. It really helped, but my technique, and conditioning need to improve, before I can max these bad boys out. After a couple of pointer from Simon, I started to get the hang of it, and the skis absolutely slayed the powder, and crude, when I got decent enough to ski them. They were forgiving, and did not buck me off when I made stupid mistakes. I have nothing but good to say about his work, and professionalism. The topsheets were a concern, but in my opinion, they are not scratched anymore than my other ski's. These skis liked to get down into the powder, about 6-8" and then they cruised from there. They were not floaters, but they did not stay under the powder very far. I did not have time to adjust the bindings fore, and aft, so they could be completely different when this is done. There was really no groomers to try out, and I did not see any moguls, as this was strickly a powder day. The few powder piles I cruised around, did not present problems, so I would say these skis would be great in anything, but tight moguls. If possible, and I can get someone that is going to Taos that I trust, I will let them air them out, and give an extensive report.

My wife chose not to try hers out just yet.

As a side note, I gave my wife, and child the same pointers that Simon helped me with, for the next day, but they gave up after a couple of runs, because it was just too hard for them to get around in the powder, and deal with the horrible wind that was at the top of the mountain. My little girl starting puking on the last run, so we got her down, and fed, and called it a day, because we got worried about her. Maybe I should have gone back up for the powder, but I was too worried to do it..

I whole heartily endorse Kyle, and whatever he chooses to do with his ski business. He busts his ***, and his work shows it. Good dude, and I would not hesitate asking him to do another pair

Right now, I do not know if I will be able to get back out this year, as I have run into a buzzsaw in my personal life, and that comes first.. I will probably have to sell a few pairs of my skis, so in the next few days, look at my quiver pictures, and I will price them to move

I thought about this thread today and was just wondering if anyone else ever got skis and if so, how were they?  Just curious.

Funny, I was thinking about this today also. Inquiring minds want to know.

I may have derailed Kyle's business to some degree. I was slow in communicating the details about graphics, then there was an problem with the skis, they didn't come out of the mold right. He offered to send my money back. I never got back to him.

Are they functional?

He seemed to imply that they could be used but the threaded inserts were off center by 1/4 inch if I recall. I'm the worst customer, never called him on the phone and rarely replied to his email enquiries. Totally my fault that the issue remains unresolved. Comprex, you have expressed interest in this pair, perhaps you can use them. If interested, let Kyle know.

I sent you a PM.

what I am thinking about is a Slalom Ski 155cm 113-64-97 race stock ski. With a mount for a vist plate.

comprex, thanks for the heads up on this, I haven't been on epic lately and wasn't aware this had been bumped.

To a very small degree, yes. What really derailed progress was the fact that I had a lot going on in my life at the time and was struggling just to make grades that would keep me in college. Trying to deal with peoples skis in a timely manner was just sucking the fun out of the project. No worried rod.

Yes, IIRC there was a a 1/4 to 3/8 inch shift at the tip of on ski, translating to a smaller shift at the inserts. I have never had a ski shift before; I can tell if they did when I cut off the excess flash. If the scrap from the two sides of the skis isn't equal, something happened. This was a fluke, and the reason evades me. I made myself a pair in the exact shape using the same technique the next day and they came out dead on.Normally, a small shift wouldn't make a huge difference in the dynamics of the ski, but here it threw of the bindings.

telerod, thanks for coming out and saying what you did. It makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing, as for a while it was weighing on my mind what more I could have done. I really didn't want to have anyone dissatisfied, let alone someone who took a chance with me. When I transitioned my mess in our living room (small apartment) from skiing to biking, I took all the skis and tucked them away under the bed. I really haven't thought about building for anyone else since then.

I am considering it for the summer though. I can't find a job, and will be taking classes part time. For one of my Professional Electives I am planning on completing an Independent Design Project, and was considering analyzing my existing designs the further eliminate vibration and characterize/improve the torsional rigidity of the skis. I just found out today that a course change has given me 3 day weekends, so if I can make a quick trip home and bring some equipment back out to Rochester with me I could likely work on skis at my leisure. Trying to cram building into a weeks vacation back home was too much.

I have finals next week but post here if you have interest in this. Before I make any promises i need to review my pricing, as I found that I was really cutting the cost close once all the little things required were factored in, as well as the previous wait list.

Bump.

Stay tuned for details about new orders (and RTTP's existing order). I was going to post tonight but a thread over at TGR has me re-thinking some things. I should be able to get some details up tomorow, i just want to see what the discussion ends up being over there.

Would you able to post info and/or additional pics on some of the skis you have done?  Even a brief list of the type and specs of some of existing designs may be helpful to those of us who want to fill out a quiver.

An almost final edit of the topsheets of Kyle's current work... the only thing that has been changed is that GSRacing has been added to the tail as well.

They are going to be my GS race pair for next year next to a pair of Nordicas.

Specs:
Length: 1860mm
Radius: >=27m
Tip/Waist/Tail: 104mm/66mm/94mm
Carbon and Titanal (7075 Airspace Aluminum) Flex Control
Electra Racing Sintered base with Graphite and Gallium
Epoxy Treated Maple Vertical Sidewalls
Plate: Marker World Cup Piston Plate
Binding: Marker Comp 20

And yea, my friend and I designed the graphics. The file is a whopping 1.1GB in size, and actually has to be made bigger due to the printing bleed and shrinkage. Like I said, it isn't the final design, but they will look something like this.
