Well now that's not fair, you ski Vail all the time.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Your prize is I'll buy boots and have you fit them. Oh wait I already did!

Will probably bring my gf out to have you do her boots though this year.

Hope you're doing well!

Steve

Your picture caught my eye insofar as perspective as I initially knew it was Vail but unlike gregfits I could not readily pick the particular spot.

I suppose even while Betsy and I skied Vail a dozen times last season, I can’t recall skiing Forever which is strange as it’s a great powder run. Of course with powder comes the crowds especially after getting a text alert for new powder we’d purposely avoid the huge lines forming on 5 coming in from either Sundown in the background of your picture or Sun Up.

An example of the early morning crowds on 5 comes from The Ad over on TGR and this picture he posted of the early crowds forming on both sides. Also, you’ll find me in this picture if you pull out the magnifying glass and start to count pixels looking closely at the end of the line (or entry point) on the right side, see the padded pole marking line entry, just below the pad with a perspective of it touching my helmet; goggles up looking down, green jacket, backpack with Betsy directly to my left in blue coat and white helmet with guy in red coat behind me. These lines that rush to the powder are a pain...especially when you're last in line

When did you take this picture? No crowds here! IIRC I think you had a post last season that you were out here with a friend or 2. We'll make a run with you on Forever if you're out again.

Hey Don, that was taken this past February. Forever is fun when it's chopped up like that as well. Very challenging.

I love the story of how it was named. This from http://vail.snow.com/winter/gl.about...ailhistory.asp

When Vail pioneer and lodge/restaurant/shop owner Pepi Gramshammer first skied this run with Pete Seibert in 1961 while being recruited to move to Vail, he had to climb back out because the lift would not be built until the following summer. When he finally made his way to the top he was tired but ecstatic and remarked to a waiting Bob Parker, 'By Gott, dot's a super slope! But it takes foreffer to climb out!'

I met Pepi coming out of his shop to go skiing last year. Getting well up there in years, but still skiing and still full of life. Talked to him for a few minutes, he was open and warm.

We'll be out Feb 20-27th this year.

Great story Steve…I’m sure tremendous to speak with him.

Makes me think that my complaining about a little lift line on 5 was weak…he would have kick my butt down and back out…calling me a pansy a$s as I cry for oxygen and sympathy.

The picture's name is "don_abasin_looking_up.jpg" so I didn't want to post "abasin?" as that would have been cheating!

Certainly, as everyone knows you would never cheat!! Yes, for the rest, while I thought to scrub code before posting I felt what the hell, it wasn't my turn anyway.

So Mr OP, who's up...albq-Dan, gregfits or some other brave soul

Looking at images like this is painful.

The urge to push forward and begin ripping is unbearable.

That looks like moderately dusted hardpack, perfect for 80mm to 90mm skiing.

BTW, that's 2002 and I no longer have the same coat, Chubbs, boots, or Kicking Horse sticker. Pants, poles, and underpants are the same.

Not if you've read my KHMR trip report from 2001, the log jumping year, when I lost all of the above. Not KH, not the east.

Very close. We had just come down through the trees from the chair which is above my right shoulder. The camera person went around the trees and stood above the creek bed.

No. Similar trees but only about blue-slope steep from where we're standing on down, and much icier. It is a crick after all.
