Chairlift in Backyard (Pic. attempt)

Just got up my Double Chairlift in my backyard. Trying to learn how to post pic's so if the 2 pics don't come oh #$&#, Well that sort of worked. Anyone help me go ahead please.

Anyway chairlift is from Donner Ski Ranch, on Donner Summit in tahoe. Knocked down old double chairlift mid ramp with my chairsaw one day and took this chair home in lieu of $. Been carting it around for 20 yrs. Got to St. Maries and had it sandblasted and powder coated Blue, got a 1 1/4 in fishing rope from a friend and finally "Hung" it from a tree to my deck.

If you look close you will see a safety bar, push/pull it down and the little platform underneath comes forward and you can put your ski's on the rest and have a safety bar too. pretty retro but cool. If I ever learn how to do this pic thing right I will send some after the lst snow.

Betcha I have the only Chairlift in St. Maries Idaho - YEP

Very nice. Interesting vintage design. Do the safety bar/footrests still work? I've never seen any like that.

Amazing. I'd love to do something like this.

The chair looks perfect.

Do you have "Lifties" signed-up for the season (perhaps with a martini tray)?

That is awesome! Chair looks freakin' cool, I wish I could ride it! Lovin' those foot rests, that is such a neat idea. Definitely giving me future ideas for house decor. I'll have to stop stealing trail map signs and go for gondolas now.

Nicely done. I wonder what year that lift was originally constructed. They built cool lifts back then.

Had it in my backyard in Penryn for 15 years gathering rust. I am happy I finally got it up. It will look even better with snow on the "cable" and ground.

Absconded from Donner Ski ranch about 1984 and it had been up quite awhile.

Good fun Pete. You need to set up a zip line and winch return.

Chair lift chairs make fun porch swings too.

Actually I tried/thought about using a cable from the beginning. I went down to Idaho Rigging and check this out and came to the conclusion that it would be so heavy the weight would separate my deck from the house. So rethought that one. St. Maries is a logging town and had all types of alternatives but way to heavy stuff. The only problem I might have is wet, ice and snow on Cable/rope may stretch it out a lot but have to wait and see.

Hi Pete:

With a "neat" chair like this on your patio, who cares about being "Electronically Deprived"? Thanks for sharing, and I'm blue with envy, like your chair WITH footrest.

Chairlift manufacturer/model?

Thanks for sharing the photos.

What is the manufacturer/model of that double chair lift?

Was this double chairlift the Donner Ski Ranch Lift 1A which was replaced by the Poma 3C model? (see skilifts.org link below)?

Can you shoot a few separate closeup photos of both the bottom foot rest mechanism & safety bar push it/pull it mechanism & post them? Also, you should consider submitting your chairlift pictures for an Old Chairlifts section of a website like WELSAP (Western Lost Ski Areas Project) http://www.geocities.com/welsap/.

Wow Scott, you know more about lift than I do ! Yes it was the old main chair to the top of Donner Ski Ranch, lift 1. Donner ski Ranch is still in operation and doing very well. Got a new owner 2 years ago and the area is doing very well. I will look at this stuff and yes take some pics of the safety bar/ ski rest apparatus and kpost them. Thanks for info etc. Pete

Nice job, and yes, I'd love to share a beer on that chair.

News from the old neighborhood: Last light rainfall was March 29. Not a drop since. Reservoir levels are near record lows, and the mountains are dry and dusty. The only thing I find surprising is how well the blue oaks do here. Makes your rain drops look real appealing.

Its almost here.

I have heard California refered to as "the burning shore."

Hope the winter brings you some nice, dry moisture. (smile)

I lived in Penryn for 30 yrs so I know exactly what you're referring to. In the early 70's we went thru several years of drought and Folsom Lake looked like a puddle. We have really had a nice summer up here, rained 2 in total in July and august, wet down the forests real good. for the past almost 2 weeks it has been 72-74 in the day and in the 40's at night. Heaven.

Gotta go get that beer now.

Slider, Bud man cool. Guess I will have to put on my best Gaper uniform and post a picture when the snow falls. Ski Tote and all. Yes I have one left from a raffle donation at the races used to run. Believe it or not I had a BudMan cape Mrs. made me and used to wear in the super G at Mammoth. Was always good for a few laughs and a couple buds in the bar at the end of the day.
