Hot Box vs Attic

I was always advised to store skis in a cool dry place like the basement, garage closet or under the bed but avoid the attic because of the heat. Now I read about you guys intentionally cooking your skis for days/weeks at a time.
If a hot attic is BAD why is a hot box GOOD?
My attic gets to over 120 degrees F some days. Would it be good for my skis to move them into the attic and let them sweat a little. I can even rub some wax on them if that would make them feel better.

I think it's a matter of control. Attics will vary, and can go way over 120 deg.

So the pair I have hidden from my wife in the attic will be OK then?

Also from what I read hotboxing is done for a matter of hours, not days. In addition I wonder if the humidity is a relevant difference.

Usually when we start talking about the time-space continuum it means the conversation has come to a conclusion...

Vent fan kicks in now if it get over 120.
I think I'll touch up a new pair with a little wax and put them in the rafters for a few hours and see what happens. If the wax doesn't melt I'll turn off the vent fan, if they come out looking like Ruffles Potato Chips I'll know it was too hot.
Only thing is 5 months from now when I finally get them on the snow I'll have no idea if they are better - worse or just like they would have been if I had done nothing.
Anyone ever tried waxing one ski to see if they could tell a difference?

I use more than a little wax. Hotboxing for 3 hours causes quite a bit of wax absorption and it is better to have too much wax than not enough. The first time that I hot box a pair of skis, I check them every hour or so to make sure that I can still see wax on the entire surface of the bases. If there are spots where the wax has been completely absorbed, I take them out of the hot box, melt more wax in these areas, and put them back in.
