Not quite. You must be a member of USSA, and be registered as competitor to get a FIS license, if you're American. No choice. Been through it for 7 years with two kids.

Canadians do not need to be members of USSA. Entries to FIS alpine races are restricted and you must go through proper channels to enter a FIS race. Canadian entries must go through Alpine Canada for all US FIS races. Entries for US athletesa are handled through the region office.

The driving force behind this series is Rich "Hutch" Hutchinson. Great guy. I believe that this series has been re-branded; Hutch formerly put together what was called the "North American Downhill Series", aka NADS. As I understand it, the goal of this series is to enable people of all ages to try, and get into some form of speed racing. I think the website explains a lot of it.

Probably not for that week, as of now. I do know that there will be a big contingent from VT as well as the CVA and Gould kids, as this is one of the qualifiers to get to the Banknorth EC Champs for both states. KMS, SMS and Burke normally bring a pretty good group in terms of numbers. Some years a big crew from GMVS and MMSC as well. The Eastern Cup speed week is the following week, and being there for the USSA races lets kids get used to the hill as well as their skis. She may try to squeeze some of it in for that reason; she's on new skis. Great chance to run some DH.
Have fun. |

Alright, I do have one more question though. Do you know anything about Maine's rules for independent competitors in Speed events? I was told in NY yesterday at a SG that I NEEDED representation by a on hill coach (and luckily I found one). It kinda made me worried for next weeks race. Do you know if I'll need to find someone for next week?
Thanks. |
