OK, you got me going now. I just went with my wife to our nearest Subaru dealer out in Riverhead and sat in a 2009 Forester.

Very very nice!

Looks great on the outside and the seats, arm and legroom are all excellent for my 6'1" 230 lb size. The leg room and comfort in the rear seats was really good, much better than the '08 Outback I sat in to compare. I also liked the higher seating position and visibility much better than in the Outback wagon.

The interior trim didn't do a whole lot for me compared to the Outback LL Bean that I sat in however. But I guess the Forester Limited model will spruce that up a bit. Overall though I really liked the look and feel of the new Forester. I'm tempted to hold off on my used car search a bit and reconsider my plans.

Yep. If I was to buy, I would have gotten a Bean/Limited, but I will have this only 2 years. The X Premium is fine.

Uh oh carve, if you made the mistake of sniffing the new car smell, you're a goner! That's a bad way to shop for used cars .

The Forester interior is heavily based on the Impreza, and it's always been a teeny step below the Legacy/Outback interior in terms of material quality. On top of that, the 05+ Leg/OB really cranked up the interior design and quality, to the point where it's as good as or better than Acura's now. That was right around the time Subaru had plans to move upmarket, and you can see the result. I think they have since moderated that plan, and even lowered prices from the initial increase.

Update: Well its been 18 mo since I got the Forester and let chime in with a report. I currently have over 30K on him and have had zero issues..as to be expected. I will say that I like the Forester but don't love it, it feels too truck-ish for me and less Subaru-ish. Simply it is a better car and not a better Subaru (same with the new Outback). I am still debating buying it out at teh end of the lease and passing it along to Ty but we are still undecided. Mileage is a disappointing 23.4 combined, I was hoping for 10% more than that.

I miss a wagon and still very well will go back to one, a good chance a Jetta TDI
