Dan,

I don't think that I've ever seen a pair of those Olin boots. What years were they sold?
I also looked at some of the other goodies in you vintage collection. You have some very nice stuff there .

Yup Dan;

Those are just like the ones a buddy of mind had in 1980 or 81. They were SOOO heavy relative to the other boots of that era, might just be the heaviest ski boots ever made? Toss them on a scale for us if you don't mind.

Thanks

Olin T/1 boot vintage and weight

I weighed the T/1s on a digital bathroom scale and the pair weighed in at 11.2 pounds.

I believe the boots came on the market in the fall of 1975; I have an October 1975 issue of SKI that has an ad for the boot. It describes it as "the first boot that successfully combines the performance of a 5-buckle boot with the warmth and comfort of a rear-entry boot.
"For comfort, the T/1 has two dials that mechanically shape the inner boot to your foot. You can dial the exact fit you want -- anytime.
"For performance it has a unique three-piece shell that's engineered to prevent bumps from throwing you back. This design also makes the T/1 easier to get in and out of than any other boot.
"And it's already been proven in competition. It's the boot used by the Olin Freestyle Team, the No. 1 team on the professional tour.
"The totally new Olin T/1. It's destined to become a classic."

I don't think I ever saw anyone in a pair. I am going to try out the pair I have that fit me.

Thanks,
Dan

:I saw a pair of Olin Ballets (maybe 150 cm?) out in front of the lodge at Hawksnest this year. Way too noodly for me, but all the "cool kids" had IV, IV COMP or BALLETs when I was comin up. The VIs and VIIs were an entirely diffferent animal

Olin Comp IV's

were fairly "fat" for their day too....

What did to competition offer at the same time to try and cut into Olin's sales?

:Blizzard Polo was a fatter twin tip ski. Hot (black light flourescent) orange and silver(?) graphics too. My friend had a pair.

notice how the flexons are the only boots from those days that people still use, what does that tell you?

I discovered my 1981 Nordicas (can't recall the model) cracked in the boot bag in 2005. I hadn't used them since about 1997. They were good soldiers :-)

Olin Mark VI, Olin Boots

Still trying to figure out this Barking Bear system. I hope I can post some photos. I purchased a pair of Olin Mark VI skis with Burt Standards and skied on them last season. These Mark VIs skied really nice. Very crisp. I now understand why they had such a great reputation. I don't think I ever skied on any other Olins, but I was always intrigued by the Ballet, which had a convex base to make spinning moves easier.

Here are some photos of the Olin boots and the Burts on the Olin Mark VIs:

I know we're supposed to post eBay auction info but there are a ton of different Lange Girl Poster magnet prints on eBay posted today.
:

They are in the downhill skiing/other category and are buy it now so there is probably an infinate supply since they are re-prints so I doubt I've spoiled anyone's sniper advantage.:

Rossi Smash !!

you almost made me cry ..!
I've been a proud owner of a pair of ST650 before switching to Dynastars (age of first Omeglass).
Strato 102 were my unreachable dream when I was younger (about 14).

also been a Lange fan since the very early 70's (and still eagerly looking after the new 2009 WC160); owned Pros about the same age of the "keep those tips up" poster !

I resumed skiing after several years because of my 6 year old son, and I can't wait to rush to my local shop to buy me a pair of (probably) RC4 WC-GS to match with.

Could this be the source of the green glow????

LOL..Countless ours of skiing pleasure by a leading ski manufacturer. Thats like listing a Curtis/Mathis Betamax and saying you will get countless hours of viewing pleasure by a leading manufacturer.

Do you remember what the dark blue ones with the yellow longitudinal stripes were called, '75-'76 season?

CR03 (brown/yellow jr version, broke 'em in half 10 years later)
MD04 (blue/red cruiser, -> core rot, toepieces came clean out in '94)
RC04 (still somewhere in the uni storage locker)
RC05 (no edges, in garden)

Now on Mondays.
