What a picture! You get to see both the old lodge and the new lodge!

Mondo brownie points for anyone that can identify the ski area (without searching Epic archives for any of my past posts)

Even more points for being able to identify the patches that my mother so lovingly sewed on my jacket for me

I can't remember my boots but the skis are 170 cm Hart Hornets.
We are hoping to bring the Hornet name back.

I had those KVC's too. I loved the glowing-snow effect.
A year or two before (or was it after) there was another brand that was very popular for one year, which made the snow glow green. Can't remember what they were...

Rossi S, you'll be pleased to know that along with my bad boot choices, I also owned a pair of the Killy 800's. (Bright red, I'll try to dig up a picture). Which are popularly regarded as the worst ski ever made. Broke one in half at the top of Snowbird, skied on the other down to the base. Only perfectly parallel turns I've ever done.

I had a plan (at one point) to make a Andirondack Chair with all Olin Mark Skis. Mark I-VII's. But gave up on it.

My recollection is that people who owned Hansons had to spray their socks with teflon or something in order to get in them.

I owned a pair of Lange Comps circa 1970 throughout the 70's. These were a highback boot with a spoiler and no hinge. The liners were 100% flow material including the tongues. That was far and away their best feature and the best of any boots I've owned. These boots had a number of technical problems, including an inability to interface properly with Din normal bindings but the quality of manufacture and materials were first rate. I finally tossed them out last year at my wife's insistence. I hadn't used them in over 25 years but aside from a slightly buckled rear plate due to buckling of the shell in lieu of flexion there was nothing wrong with them. I raced in them, hucked clifs etc and really only replaced them because I wanted a little flexibility in my boots.

There's a post somewhere in here of someone's mountain home surrounded by a fence made of old skis

I think snowboards would make a much more comfortable chair:

I saw a chair made from fairly new Atomic SL-9's. That is the ski I used yesterday. Not the newest ski, but hardly chair material.

Straight skis make better chairs and fences

Hansons! Boy, I can almost smell the neoprene, wd40 and wet socks! Didn't the Hanson brothers end up in a boy-band or something? As for the Salomon SX 90's-I always thought the steel plate on the inside ankle area was to protect the boots from edge cuts when we skiied with much less daylight between our legs! I had a pair for several years and I also believe the stiffness difference was in the plastic formulation of the cuff. I extended the small flex groove above the instep on my pair which resulted in a lower flex point and gave them much less of a flexing-over-the-top-of-the-cuff kind of feel. As for VO slaloms, can anyone with a pair of them measure how high the boot sits off the snow? No need for lifters methinks! Does anyone remember the Caber Bio System with a zeppa that rocked from side to side?

It looks like making chairs out of skis is becoming a national phenomenon.

For the 80s K2 fans

Someone's got a pair of 712s with 747s on eBay for $35.00 plus whatever they gouge on shipping.

I'm posting/sharing this because they are 200cm. I'm looking for 710s or 712s in 190s but would take 185s.

I had a pair of those in the orange. They were my favorite boots. Quit skiing around '84. Used 'em once around '95, and one of them blew apart. I didn't ski again until 2003. I put the liners in a pair of Caber shells of unknown vintage that were a size bigger than the Nordicas so I could have a boot that sorta fit until I could afford some new ones.

The Nordicas were pretty big, too, I guess. The 727's on my 710's were mounted to the Nordicas, and the heel pieces wouldn't move forward enough to accommodate my new Tecnicas. Anybody got a 727 template?

If you can't ski, do tricks!

Are you selling these or buying?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Hanson-S...QQcmdZViewItem

This auction features a vintage pair of rear entry Hanson Spyder downhill ski boots. It appears that the former owner shaved off the top portion of the foam calf suport on each boot. However, this does not affect the overall appearance of the boots and should not affect the performance. The overall condition is good with typical scuffing from use. The boots measure to be about a men's 9 1/2. Please view the attached photographs and email any questions you may have. Thank you

More Rosemount stuff

I don't know if these photos are going to come through, but I thought I'd try posting several photos of a pair of 1965 era Rosemounts I have and of the later ST-100 model. I purchased the 1965 models from the former marketing director of the company who marketed the boots before Rosemount sold its consumer sports division to Bass. I have several other pairs of Rosemounts and have posted photos of my collection on Flickr. If you send me an e-mail address, I'll send you an invitation to view all the photos. I only have a single ST-100 and I'm not sure they ever actually made it to market. The buckle strap was made out of some sort of synthetic elastic material and has completely disintegrated. I had always wanted to ski in a pair of Rosemounts so two seasons ago I skied in a pair of 1968 vintage Rosemounts with the fabric cuff (which pre-dated the Corfam cuff) on a pair of 1970 vintage Fischer Superglasses. It was fun.
Thanks,
Dan

That is some interesting stuff...man those boots look like something out of 007...see nowadays you buy a pair of plug boots and pay almost $1000 for what is essentially maybe $50 in material and thats mainly because of the liner, the plastic itself might be worth $10. On the other hand those Rosemounts, they look like some engineering went into them worth some money. Impressive boots, I never saw such things.
