I can ask my buyer, I am sure she knows, she has been stocking our shop for 40 years. Unfortunately I won't see her until Wednesday.

710-Comp, 910-Comp

I got the 710's attached to the Tyrolia 350RD's that I needed for "The Ski", they were in very good condition. While scouring Craigslist, I found the (undrilled) 910-Comps for a stupid cheap price, needless to say, the shipping cost much more than the cost of the skis. As I mentioned, they are big. For reference the 710's are 200's, the 910's are 220's. I didn't measure the waist but they are also much wider than the 710's too. I would like to mount them up, but the ONLY period binding I would put on these would be M4-15's, so if someone wants to see these hit the snow, send me bindings. I am also on the lookout for some 810's (208-210 preferred) and some 610's (190's).

Thanks Glen for picking these up for me.

I hear you PP.  If I only knew where the other pairs of M4-15s got to... I need to have a talk with my brother.

Sweet sticks.

We'd have to compare your K2s DHs to Rossi DHs if we can get them mounted. Start waxing them. Do you have a large enough ski bag to bring the to CO?

Great find, Phil!  The complete set, with 'period correct' bindings would look great.
Not too many 910's around these days, or ever, I have found.
I have only found shorter 610's, myself.  It may have been the market for them, I think.

A couple of years later than the Com series, but what gear was Bill Johnson skiing on?

Thanks, my mind wasn't exactly clear during that era, but I remember watching him win the Gold with an incredibly balls out run.

Here is something that is bound to make some of us weep:

Isn't that Richie-Rich's backlot?

I don't get the recycling thing with skis. What, are they pulling the metal edges off?

Dunno. There are enough guys in this thread that would love to pick through that pile.

There's a recent thread about recycling: http://www.epicski.com/forum/newestpost/87355 Maybe he can give us the answers?

Tog asks "Do you guys tune the bases or your retro skis?"

I fill gouges, sharpen edges and wax ALL the skis that see use, regardless of their born on dating....why wouldn't you?

Colorado Ski and Golf has a recycling program also.

Something like 50,000 (I think the # is correct) pairs of skis were collected, then ground up to make I can't remember what. I stopped reading after the grinding part, anyway.

The salesperson in the shop told me that once they are in the recycling pile, no one can touch them.

Pity the recycling company doesn't have a 1 day sale before grinding.

So, did anyone notice the Volkl P20 SLs in the front left of the "A" box (also has a blue snowboard in it)? Bright yellow, hard to miss.  Looks like a pair of Marker bindings as well. I already have 3 pair, but I sure would like those as well.

Maybe I shouldn't have spoken without checking the lair.  Turns out, my 610s are 190s and 200s, but I have passed over a few short pair in my travels, when I have had limited carry-on.  910s would be nice, to complete the set!

It would appear that I like the K2 Winter Heats, too.

And Canada was represented at K2, too.

Yes, just the Junior Burgers (3 pair over the years) and one pair of Cheeseburger Commemorative skis, in the wrapper, for me.

And a pair of K2 Wong Bangers, in the 'Signature model' section of the collection.
I removed the binders for shipping, and I'll have to remount them, one of these days.......

I have that Spalding poster hanging in the SRD office. I still have many pairs of Spaldings from the Sideral and Starboards to the last generation Squadra Corsa's. Still among the best skis ever made.

And, yes Virginia, poles can improve your skiing. Especially if you don't use any (from my experience).

OK, now some to share:
Spalding Ski ad from 1984:

And, since I liked them so much, I bought 2 pair:

Limited production, hand-made race stock, and each pair flex matched.

You know, it's hard to take pictures of long, skinny things. The ones on the left are the Downhill model, 218 cm. 2nd Generation binding on these (Tyrolia 690 R). On the right we have the 205 cm GS with Tyrolia 380 (the originals). I still use the Downhills - I used to ski them a lot on Palivichini at A-Basin, but now keep them out of the bumps and just go for speed. I've never raced on them, but just got them for fun. However, I find most ski areas are just too small to really enjoy these. You get off the lift, and 90 seconds later you're back at the base again.

I'd like to use the GS boards, but have to remount them and really don't want to drill them, so I guess they stay in a corner.

I've sent my brother a missive about the m4-15s. If they are going to get mounted on anything, it ought to be a ski that is going to ski snow.

Waiting to hear back from him,
