More Retro memories????

The ski was made by Composite Structures, I believe they were in Washington somewhere. My friend has a Maheraja cutting board!
A bible of mine from my younger days was written by Warren Witherall (sp?) who wrote How The Racers Ski. He was a champion water skier. The first Superstars athletic competition was won by a guy named Wayne Grimditch. This was a show that was supposed to showcase the popular jocks from American stick-and-ball sports. It was won by a British water skier. That didn't go over too well with the muckety mucks behind the show!

That didn't sound right. I got Wayne Grimditch confused with Mike Hazelwood, he was the Brit.

For some reason when I saw Hart - EP came immediately to mind. I think Lake Washington is the cradle of waterskiing. Wally Burr, Connelly, Obrien, HO, Radar, Iconn, Wileys, and Kidder I believe are all from the area.
I'd forgotten W. Witherall was an accomplished waterskier. I'm convinced they are mutually beneficial. The  Atheletic skier is one of my favs......

I don't want to get to far off of snow skis.

Yes K2 had waterskis out there. K2 Three's and K2 Five's which are hidden some where in the black hole.

This wall/shrine is noted in an article on the last page of the latest issue of The Ski Journal.  The writer notes that his buddy has built this wall over the years, and now it is 3 skis high, and 100 feet long.  The shrine in the middle is where people drop skis off to be added to the wall.  He notes that if they can create this in a town of 30,000, imagine what a national call to donate could create!
The writer also laments that he has burned skis in the past, in a sacrifice to Ullr.

Note: I would scan and post the article here, but I just visually scanned the latest issue at the local bookstore, after balking at the $15 Cnd. price.

Absolutely great photos throughout the mag, as always, although no pic of the wall is there.

Phil
After a little research, I now know why someone would mount the Nava's on a 204 K2 VO Unlimited (not Slalom, as I had originally reported).
.

They must have been taken with the Sintered Competition Base, which clearly made for an Easy Turn Base, and superior performance.

It is written on the ski, so it had to be true!

Just two pair.
Alas, I haven't matched up any period specific bindings yet.
Canadian, don't you know.

Anyone know where these fit in the K2 line-up?
Also, anyone know of the Rossignol Sundance?  It was clearly an intermediate ski, in about a 160 cm length.

Alas, I was already over my weight/bag limit, and left both pair at the Big Bear Recycle/Transfer station in S. California this week.  If anyone is in the neighbourhood, let me know and I will send directions.  I have always managed a consistent haul of collectible skis from there, and I just don't make it down there anymore.

Pete
I am a big fan of the two-ski graphic, and I applaud your designs!
In my little world, fat skis had an immediate impact on powder and big mountain ski performance, and the off-shoot was that they also provided a larger canvas for better graphics.

Here are some early designs spread across two skis.
Maxel Hot Run

The RRC's are a locally re-branded Hart ski, while the Maxel were a branded ski, although I am not sure of the true origin.

The Hart ad got me thinking of signature skis, and how ubiquitous J.C. Killy and Billy Kidd were in the late sixties and early seventies.
Looking back thru some old mags, one or both of them had an ad, an article, a cover or a photo in every issue.  They were everywhere.
And clearly they weren't shy about putting their names on skis, either.

I had a pair of the Fel's. I think I either got them from Comprex or gave them to him. I forget.

Ah, the Fels Trinetics.    I had M51SCs on them.

I never really found a good balance spot on those: the front end was really, really soft.   Comparable in flex to a Dynastar BIG IIRC,     The back was a fair bit stiffer, a touch softer perhaps than a P30RC.

It really engaged on turns, then the  WHOA! surprise came along as you thought you were midway in the turn then  realised that the ski was just starting to flex

I think I might still have the owner's manual somewhere.

I just saw a pair of the Burt IIIs last week, and I didn't know they even existed.  They were much more hi-tech looking than the bulky I or II's, and appeared to by much lighter.  I was told that they were easy to switch from ski to ski, with only the retaining pieces needed to remain on the individual skis.  In this way, you could easily pack 2 or 3 pair of skis in a ski bag, and only one pair of bindings was required.  As long as you didn't have to share/lend skis with anyone else.

Nice, but I'm still waiting for someone to auntie up a pair of 79/80 Blizzard Polo twin tip freestyle boards.

Smell that?  Winter's coming!

Along the line of Burts, Spademans, and Split Tails... What do you folks care to guess will be the collectable retro  "gadget" ski equipment around say 2025?  I'm guessing Salomon Pro Links with Pilots, Teleboards, and chip skis.
Also, FAT skis in 2025 just like retro fat skateboards being in huge demand now.

Interesting question.

Prolink bindings along with a whole Prolink setup (Ski/Boot/Binding) all matching colors.

Fat Bastards, obvious there.

Just had a nice visit with MWP in Breck. As he is away from his scanner, I'll contribute a little something from my trip to Crested Butte last weekend.

My buddy, Erik, was racing about the same time as me in the 70's. Here are a couple pair of skis he still has:

Additionally, this is his quiver of race skis: 13 pairs of Fischers (2 pair which I loan him) and 3 pairs of Atomics.

This is the view of Crested Butte from Erik's porch:

The actual ski area is on the other side of the mountain.

These are cell phone photos, so I apologize for the quality.

ooooh that Equipe Suisse!  I spent 72-72 in Switzerland and the Swiss used that ski in everything, even slalom.  They never supplanted the Strato here.

Love the location; he can ski right into his backyard.

I was always told to avoid at all costs putting my feet into those, because they would be shaped funny when they came back out.

I was cleaning out the garage for a yard sale. These are NOT for sale.

I think these all qualify. The Bandits are on the cusp, I suppose. I loved the X15s. They were my first really shaped ski. They are only retired because a) I needed the bindings and b) the base you don't see is 10% epoxy.
