More Retro memories????

I agree that is shouldn't have made it to production as just the 195, but there was talk in adding a 185 and 175 to the line, but the mold costs were too high,

If you can't ski, do tricks!
You'll note the off center position of the "under the ball of the foot" piece.
Other than that.....yep!
Mackware,
Thanks for posting the photos. I see the Moog bindings on the Hart Ballets. I have a pair of Moogs on a pair of K2 Twos I bought on Ebay a while back.
My first pair of "real" skis were 195 cm Cutlasses just like the ones you have. My first pair of skis were a pair of Krystal skis with screwed in edges. They were 180 cm or so and after I got the Cutlasses a guy who weighed about thirty pounds more than I did bought the Krystals. And snapped one of them about in the middle of the forebody on his first day out.
I am drooling over those Javelins. Are they skiable? Delaminating at all?
Here's a general question for the group. I live in AZ. I have a garage. It gets very hot in the summer. Do you think storing a pair of vintage skis (or, for that matter, a pair of new skis) in the garage would be unwise; that is, would the high temperatures be harmful to the resins?
Thanks,
Cold Warrior

I'm drooling over the Javelin's too. I'm not content with just the XXLs! I am so looking forward to seeing and skiing them, though. The Marker toepiece doesn't frighten me (much).
Seems like Harts were and are the ski to have (classic ones at least).
The heat may or may not be an issue. Hot boxes run in the 110 to 120 range, I believe. I can easily imagine that your garage could exceed that. Skis will fall apart. I saw a pair that couldn't handle even a hot box and it was sad. Nice speed skis that were warped and mishapen.

Seeing all your Millers and Harts. WOW, what a load of memories. Drooled over those Galaxies at shop in JR High till they handed me a mop. Never ever ski a pair though.
Since it's Miller Time how about the Miller turntables. Did any of those survive, of did everyone else send them on to the great garbage can to hell from which they were spawned. They were a bad idea that never got better. Always wondered if that may have inspired the Marker Rotomat.
Miller Soft was another matter, that ski was innovative.
Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

Hi Midwest Pete. I see no one has responded to you so here they are!!!!!
Some of the Elan SCX. Then as they were being worked on and developed. Here come's my favorite!
K2 Fours ---------------------- 1995 1996 spring of 1996 on a pair of K2 four Factory seconds, Bode Miller swept the junior Olympics.
Thanks
Mack
I did indeed take that picture in my recording studio! As to whether I'm a skier/rock star, I'd say that right now it's more accurate to say I'm a skier/Pro Tools ninja. But I'm working hard on the rock star part
.

I figured you would have some in the black hole!
Thanks for posting! I have a pair of the K2 fours at 198 cm that I skied on in the 90s (with the Marker Selective Control bindings). They are still in really good shape. Bob Beattie sold me on those bindings during "SKI WORLD". I don't think I ever missed an episode of that.

Cool shot SRD! There are so many great skiers on this site!
I will be in Vail next week to visit the ski museum once again, so I might have to swing by your shop.
I am staying in Breck so MastersRacer and I are planning to meet up.
Sorry to say but we are in Mt Hood for the Summer with the SRD Race Center in Government Camp till mid August

In the words of AC/DC -- "for those about to rock we salute you". I probably spent way too much time watching MTV's Headbangers Ball in the late 80s, early 90s...

I 'returned' to racing on a pair of K2 Four 88s with some AT boots. I wasn't going to get serious about my racing. Or so I thought. I still have the Fours, but they don't see the light of day often. They got noticed when I wore them to a Masters race as a course crew, though.
Here is my collection of Atomic Powder Plus skis. Transitional technology that still rocks. The short ones (165 cm) are really nice for the trees. I haven't mounted the 180s. They are backups for when my Elan Quad Ones give up the ghost. They are already breaking down at the side walls, although that is attributable to their being used, not poorly made.
As I was surfing this AM, I came across a post that discussed needing a neon one piece to use the skis on the right. I would agree, but I'm not gonna do it!
FWIW, the Fritchis cost more than all three pairs of skis combined, including the off center mounted Markers that came mounted on the center pair.

Love the old "harts" and "Harts", but I prefer "harts". I'm surprised nobody's posted their first pair of Gremlins. I've still got the Freespirits that used to belong to my sister. I skied them two years ago with my toddlers. Here's my retro collection on the left, along with the moderately old shaped skis.
Smell that? Winter's coming!
No one has shown a pair of hart hornets. They had Dovre step-ins. I can't remember what boots I had at that time. Probably buckle leather Henkes. That was my first sweet-hart ;o)) I remember doing tips stands before a proficiency competition and breaking the tip. It was held by edges and base only. Fortunately it was snow plow turn, so the broken tip didn't matter much. I placed second overall, I believe. Now maybe if I hadn't broken that ski....

It appears to me that hart had a real affection for american automobiles given the names used for so many of their models;
American Motors
Javelin
Hornet
Gremlin
Chevrolet
Camaro
Oldsmobile
Cutlass
Ford
Galaxie
Maybe Philpug has some insight here. Inquiring minds want to know.......

Yep along with...
Firebird
Mustang
Pacer
190E 2.3 16V
When the last go round of Harts rebirth (cats have only nine lives for a point of reference), they brought out the "Fuelie" series, which consisted of the Stage One (dragster), Scarab (some type of small race car) and the Boss (Mustang). All were a stretch and were quickly dropped.

You mean like these early concepts?
You have a good memory Phil -- just a bit off. These later morphed into a snowboard.
