Spring Skiing in February

It's 90 degrees today in our local So. Cal. valleys!!! And I'm goin' skiing tomorrow. Is it just here, or has the weather been bouncing upside down everywhere this season?

At least it will be nice sitting around the open-air BBQs at the top of the hill for lunch. :

I skied in the rain at 48 degrees F Wednesday. Overnight to Thursday we had a foot of heavy, damp snow on top of the inch of rain that fell Wednesday. Pretty tricky going at times in heavy overcast for Thursday's skiing. Today the temperature was -2 F when the lifts opened. Beautiful blue sky and sunshine ALL day. Really unusual for Michigan.

Yea, it's warm, but that foot of windbuffed pow on Wednesday was epic. Where was everybody? There was nobody up top when it opened, and no gondola line whatsoever. Kept alternating between Dave's and Hangman's. Couldn't decide which was better. The snow up top, and in the Avys is still winter, and excellent.

A warm front has pushed thru the PNW. Raining at all the area and passes. Snow level to 7000+ feet. Cold / dryer front coming in tomorrow. Should get the skiing back to "good". It's been a great year here and should prove to be an outrageous spring and maybe great summer ski season. Mt. Baker was over 200" last weekend (before the rain). Crystal and Alpental are in great shape as well. Skied Whistler / Blackcomb last weekend and bases came away w/o a scratch.

Last week was epic pow skiing. Today I am having a day off after 27 days straight on skis. It is 48F and the BBQ bar is looking good. Big air Worlds tonight and a free concert. Coming up is more snow tonight and looking like the rest of the week.

Its just a few warm days in a long variable winter.

Do you want me to annoy you?

It snowed in Belfast last night.
OK, it's all melted now, but if we'd had mountains, ski slopes and a lift system, I might have been able to get a few turns in.

More snow due tonight again!

If God hadn't meant us to ski, why did He give us mountains, snow and gravity?

Skiied in mashed potatoes here on the east coast yesterday. Spring is here. There's no doubt about that!! And bare spots everywhere. Good workout though. I feel like I've used muscles I havent felt all season.

Well, when is the best time to hit the Rockies?

January seems to be early season in some years, and February early spring in other years...

I prefer short and cold days with dry fluffy powder... but I also want the coverage as deep as it gets.

I know that march is one of the snowiest months for the central Rockies, but if I'm not lucky enough to get a storm, the sun may be already strong and the snow spring like (not bad, but I prefer winter like)

What can I expect for February in Utah?
The Cottonwoods I know that are in great shape at this time of the year, but what about PC resorts, Snowbasin, Powder Mt...?

Tks.

Why are we reviving posts from 2002?

There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment.
