There are some really great photos here, and some beautiful dogs.

Over the years I have gotten only a few decent photos of my black dog. MattL and MikeC posted some beautiful pics of their black dogs.

Anybody have any tips?

A couple of you have posted photos of your dogs enjoying a snack. I just want to warn everyone about a tragedy my close friend dealt with just last week. Her teenage son and friends left a mess in the basement (kids do that) and the next morning they found their black lab dead with a Cheetos bag on her head. Very sad and a devastated kid. Be careful.

More often then chocolate killing a dog. A family friend of ours had just gotten a beagle puppy and it was found dead with its head in a bag of jerky.... Be careful.

Tips for photographing black dogs - ALWAYS use a flash (even in bright sunshine).

This is one of the best pictures I ever took of my old Lab, Jack. Of course he was wet, which made him very happy!

Brothers from the same litter, Riley & MAC (Black)!

MAC was born at a McDonald's drive thru. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old. We rescued his brother Riley last April. They will be 4 March 31st!

This is Finn. I adopted him on 10/13/00. He was very thin and some folks were not very nice to him. He's my buddy. The second picture is Finn in the snow, it's the October picture from the Irish Setter Rescue calender, The last one is from several years ago hiking in Acadia. He's an off-leash dog.

He's getting old now and has epilepsy and very bad hips but he's still happy and is sleeping next to my desk right now.

Hi Folks. My Name is Millie.
Betsy and Don said I should post some pictures of me.
I've been told I have a great personality with very large ‘puppy’ paws.
I have an enormous head…
which is full of thoughts on how I can best please my family members each day:

Here are two of my best friends.
I like to guard them and make sure they don’t leave my sight.
Of course when I can’t see them I smell around to find them.
Then I guard them again:

Here I think I just swallowed a bee:

I find this device completely unnecessary and rather restrictive:

Here is an example where I have lost sight of my round friends.
I'm using my nose to sort it all out:

I wait patiently for Don to finish his read.
He will then assist me with the exploration and exploitation...
of my round friends:

I’m often given other jobs to do.
Here I’m making sure nobody walks under that ladder behind me.
I’m doing my usual outstanding job…
I need someone to praise me at this particular moment:

As you can see, I must vigilantly guard my round friends from obvious imposters:

Out front I wait for something really special.
I’m waiting for Betsy who has my round friends in one hand...
and a device called a tennis racket in the other.
I just go crazy when she hits my round friends with that tennis racket:

Latter in the day I’m thankful that Betsy wakes me from my nap.
She tells me we need to find my round friends now:

So…that’s it.
Thanks for letting me post.
I think I’m going to use my nose and find my round friends now. Woof!

This is GRACIE. 50% Australian Cattle Dog, 50% Australian Shepherd... 100% loves her herd/flock. Does not like other 4-legged animals, however... very much the alpha female... lifts her leg to pee like the boys and marks her territory. Which she then surveys from her perch on a high cliff....

Will walk on hind legs for a long time, if there is a treat suspended at end of that arm....

Has a wild coat, from her Dingo ancestors (good camouflage in the outback, and on oriental rugs)...

And a very odd way of sitting....

Awesome pictures!!

Hilarious when the dog is running through the snow, my dog is in St.Louis, but whenever it snows he seems to love romping around in it. Then it goes inside and plops down on the heating vent on the floor to warm up.
