Chubbs soar in value

These get more expensive every time the come up for auction. They are one of the best skis ever made, but this is impressive for a six year old model.

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

That does it, I'm selling all my pork bellies, FOREX contracts, OJ futures, credit swaps, gold bullion, and liquidating my accounts in the Caymens so I can buy up all the Chubbs I can get. Where else can you get this kind of return? I want to corner the market. Change my screen name to CHUBBKING.

You're too late. Volantaddict has already cornered the market. I just realized that he is the Bunker Hunt of Chubbs. My wife has a couple pair that we are betting on for our retirement.

I get it. Once the market is cornered he posts these auction results to get the little people to jump on the bandwagon meanwhile he's quietly selling and moving to Brazil. Clever.

Wow... maybe I will sell my FB's... I could sell my FB's and buy Head IM103's/SuperMojo103's and have money left over!

I Ski.

Warren & VA

Sounds like Warren Buffett and VA have formed a pact to manipulate the market.

Run up a flag and everyone starts a feeding frenzy creating a "false moat" in the niche market.

They as prices climb .... sell off quick and get outa' Dodge.

The SEC should be notified .. el pronto!

Another ski that has been going up in value is the Salomon Pocket Rocket and 1080 Gun. I had to pay more to replace the ones I lost than I paid for themm2 years ago. I haunted Ebay for months looking.

I have some FB's I'd be willing to part with...maybe they'll be worth something in a few years.

Start contacting the #2-5 bidders. That was a nice ski, but not worth that kinda change.

That used to work and I've done it myself but ebay has cracked down and now hides the identity of all but the winning bidder.

That was my problem, all my Volants were bent or delammed. So I guess a good pair would go up in value.

$465 for Chubbs? Well, the Christmas shoppers are showing some desperation.

In 2004, the going price was $325. I always suspected Volantaddict would be a prospective trustifarian.

buy and hold

You daytraders can speculate all you want. I'm a buy-an-hold ski investor. My portfolio includes my first edition Strato 105's (glossy top, circa 1976 or 7), two pair of Rossi 4SK's and a lone pair of Dynastar Omesofts. They'll be worth millions someday......however, I'll be long dead. Aw heck, maybe I'll make an Adirondack chair out of them.

I hear the reason Chubbs are going up in price is because of a stainless steel shortage in China. Volant owners better worry because crack addicts ripping the top-sheet off of their skis even when locked up in racks.

In Bozeman waiting for first contact

Quite a lively discussion. :

These particular Chubbs (01-02 models) were the last version to come out of the Colorado factory. They have more shape than the original, zebra-based Chubbs (110-89-100), but the same dimensions as the Ti Chubbs (113-87-103).

I have bought four pairs of Chubbs on ebay, and none of them were bent.

This is a common sentiment from people like you that are Telluride skiers. The shops there never liked Volants because they tended to come back bent from T-ride's huge bumps. The steepness plus low annual snowfall leads to endless vertical of trenched out bumps found in few other places. I have broken several pairs of skis there, but never my Volants. I can attest from personal experience that Chubbs work quite well for the tight tree skiing at Telluride, and the wind chop found on Gold Hill before they put a lift up there that resulted in more bumps. In years past I had some great times arcing my 208 cm Volant G-maxs through the bumps, but Volants and Telluride have generally never been a good match. I've got great memories of wild times on the walls of the West Drain with my G-maxs flexed to what felt like a half circle. Mine eventually ended up bent, but it didn't happen at T-ride.

You nailed it. Telluride bumps treat any ski with a metal laminate with disrespect.

We at Snowbowl never see any moguls as they groom all of the bowls on a regular basis in between the many hella huge dumps of snow we receive with frightening frequency. :

For the record, I well know about delamination issues with Volants, that's why they redesigned them with what they call V2 construction (version 2). The steel cap Volants have a smoothness to them that I love, and they can occasionally be had at good prices. If I can get three or four pairs of a ski I love for the price of one pair of brand new wimpy non steel skis, why wouldn't I? You can say one thing about the 01-02 Chubbs, that in spite of the problems that are well known, they still are soaring in value! :

Earlier versions of the Chubbs seem to go much more inexpensively, but often are in great shape, they rip too.

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

va, you may want to take a trip to the Fernie dump/landfill the last couple of times i took my recycling there there were 2-3 pairs of volants there....
seemed ironic that they ended up there when they could have been made into forks and spoons....
