Ski Flete
I have a pair of Ski Flete " Hawk" skis from the 1950's hanging on my wall. I think they made bindings also.

Does Ignious still make skis?
How about Miller, as in Miller Softs.
Tony Syler had some skis but I don't remember if it that was the model name or the brand name.

Trotski (and all other contributors): what a great list! Just looking at all of these "brands that are no more" brings back memories of times I've skied on or seen them on the slopes over the years. And it's interesting that several companies went down but not out and have now come back to life (although sometimes as mere shells of their former selves).

I think that I've got a contribution: HD (I believe that they were Swiss made). I rented a pair of these in Tignes in the summer of 1985 (I remember that I liked them a lot). I've tried an internet search and haven't found any sign of them other than a few references to old skis.

Keep up the good work!

Roy ski -- Imported (maybe made by) a tire company. Sold in the upper midwest. If my memory is right they could be bought at a local tire shop.

I suspect that, if no one has "bought" the Kaestle name, then Nordica has decided to re-suscitate the brand and come out with it and with its own brand.
Two other brands I skied on and that aren't anymore:
- Freyrie (see one model here http://cgi.ebay.it/sci-adulto-marca-...QQcmdZViewItem
I think they now make water skis only)
- Straver (first fiberglass ski my mother owned..somewhere 1966-1970)

Oh, BTW San Marco boots became Head boots; I think only the ski boot "lost" the San Marco brand, while other type of shoes/boots still carry the name, but I'm not 100% sure of this.

Walks, I also skied on Merite skis in the early 90's. They were supposedly rebadged Dynamic VR 17 sold by Ski Chalet as their "house brand" ski. I got them for next to nothing.. As far as defunct bindings, nothing was quite as weird as the infamous Burt retractable.

Nope, Geeze was bought up by Rossignol (I think).

I'm thinking it counts as gone if they are under different ownership with a different name on them.
Look was also purchased by Rossignol but still uses the LOOK name (that was new to me!).

Geze, previously one of the binding giants, is no longer in the lineup. The brand name was purchased by Rossignol in 1994. Rossignol also purchased the Look binding brand but continues to manufacture bindings under the Look name. Look bindings are currently distributed in the United States by Dynastar—a brand also owned by Rossignol.

Geze = gone
LOOK=still around

fair enough?

Some look Pivot's and Rossignol FSK bindings used the look style heel and the geze-tech nose. Look bindings are called Dynastar from 2007 and on so Look is obsolete too.

The names are gone. The tech and factories are not.

"Solar" should actually be SOHLER, a German made ski. 60's and 70's that I know of. May well go back earier too.

Also RAMER marketed AT skis, but they were in fact made by Hexcel. I have a pair of Grand Tour's (190's)

I would add Mitchell, a French company most famous for their fishing reels. They made skis in the early 70's, mid size and quite flexible.

If I remember well, the brand was renamed by Léo Lacroix.

Correction: the brand was Straver, created by Mitchell.

The brand and the production plant were purchased by Léo and Daniel Lacroix in 1973.

Some others ancient ski brands

Hi skiers,
I am new in this community, I am from the Pyrennees. I am a collector of old skis from 60's, 70's, 80's and some special recent models, and spanish skis from all ages.

In the middle 70 it was a brand named Freyrie. The KL most used skis with the Mirage model. I think it's still a manufacturer of water skis.

It was also the brand Grivel from Italy but I think it was a Hagan manufacture.

In Spain we have the brands Samid and Sancheski that you have yet in the list, and some other important brands, sold only in Spanish market, like Roig, Policart, Miret, Puig, Poll-Puig, Indesa with some special names and spanish Attenhofer manufactured by license.

In bindings we have Zeus with Marker License, Aniorte a copy of the old Kandahar, March with "new" spanish technology but a poor comercial succes.

It was also Ramy a french brand with alpin and nordic bindings and ski poles.

The Lange bindings with a Burt model was also very important in the 70's.

I am happy to participate in this list.
