(not scotch) What do you guys like? My current favorites are Gentlemen Jack and Makers Mark although I had some Basil Hayden last night that was good.

Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey. I usually drink beer, but this stuff is tasty.:

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

I like Maker's Mark and Wild turkey, both regular WT and their "rare Breed" premium whiskey. I also like JD and am a Tenessee squire.

I can't take the taste of scotch.

After closing weekend antics at Alta last Saturday I can say that Whiskey is off my list until the fall or winter.

Make that Alberta Springs. It used to be called "Old Time Sipping Whiskey" (not sure of the spelling, maybe Olde tyme?)

Booker's is my all time favorite, but at 126 proof and $45 a bottle, I don't buy it that often. A fairly close second at $29 a bottle is Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage.

Until tonight, I had never heard of Pappy Van Winkle. At dinner, though, I saw 20 year old PVW for $16/shot. I was tempted, but couldn't talk myself into it. Maybe next time I'm in Texas I'll be able to find a bottle.

The 15-year is quite a bit cheaper than the 20-year, but almost as good. I think a 15-yr bottle goes for about $60 (US) around here, whereas the 20-yr is $100 or more.

I lucked out -- my husband loves bourbon, so for Christmas my brother gives him PVW. My husband doesn't really like the PVW, though (he's a dyed-in-the-wool Maker's Mark guy), so I drink it. Neither of us tells my brother where his gift goes ... I guess it all evens out in the end.

A friend of my father's is the masters distiller at Blanton's distillery. He brings me specially crafted bottles from his private stash. Best bourbon ever. I have had it up to 118 proof but the best is around 90. Each barrel ends up different.

Oh and FYI Jack Daniels is Sourmash corn whiskey not bourbon. Bourbon has it's own laws for being crafted that include using new, charred oak barrels. These barrels can only be used once. After they are poured, most of these barrels go overseas to Scotland and Ireland to be used to make Scotch and Irish whiskey.

Bushmills 16yo single malt.

But I feel it's unfair competition.

If God hadn't meant us to ski, why did He give us mountains, snow and gravity?

Four Roses is the cheapest whiskey you can find in the Geneva airport duty free shop.

It is nice and light. It is far better than that horrible Jim Beam -even my mother used to like it.

I'd be interested to see other CA recommendations.

(and also best Cuban-sugar rums, but that's a different thread).

Now on Mondays.

Not only that, but in 04, they reduced their alcohol content. The fine folks at Modern Drunkard Magazine convinced me to join their boycott, though Jack's a good mixing whiskey, I prefer Maker, Knob or Woodford Reserve when I'm just sipping....

okay, y'all convinced me, it's quitting time

Jim Beam Black Label (8yr)....smoky, leather, butterscotch....outstanding.

My favorite single malt scotch, Glenmorangie, is initially aged in former
bourbon barrels.

I wish I wasn't at work right now........

Hmmm, I didn't know that, but it's interesting. I'm much more of a bourbon than a scotch fan, but the only kind of single malt that I buy is Glenmorangie. Now I know why ...

Jack Daniels is swill only fit to use as washer fluid in your car. I like Jameson's Irish Whiskey. In a rye whiskey I like Wisers Oldest (20 yr old) and Gibson's Stirling (18 year old)

It's all about the Irish. Took three liters of duty free Jameson to the St paddy's day instructor party. Threw the scaps away. Good thing we had enough beer to chase it.
