Hendricks Gin, THE best Gin I ever had. It was suggested by someone at the liquor store. It is sooo good. In the winter, I drink brown liquors (scotch) in the summer I switch to clears..Gin and Vodka usually in a triangular glass with an olive.

I'll have to get some - Gin infused with cucumber and rose petal!?!
I usually have Bombay Saphire or Tanqueray, but will be going out tonight to find a bottle (I was going out for a six pack anyway).

I'm a Bombay Saphire man myself, that stuff saved my life when I lived in the tropics. You might try this one, made from real High Desert Juniper berries by a friend of mine, Jim Bendis, of Bend.

Bombay Sapphire is nectar of the Gods. It is Gin Liqueur.

I don't like to waste it with tonic (that is for lesser gins).

I like to squeeze some lemon or lime (usually lemon) and put that with the gin, and maybe a smallish ice cube, half a spoon of sugar.... very nice, if the gin's good.

I was purely Sapphire too, this Hendricks is awesome though. Forget the Olive or Vermouth...fantastic DRY.

The Hendricks is superb as is the Juniper from Bend distillery. Tried both last night, excellent. The Bend distillery also makes a Cascade gin whcih is higher proof and not as 'sweet' from the Juniper. Now I'll have to do a blind taste test with the three in my cabinet - Bombay Saphire, Juniper and Hendricks.
The bend site also has some interesting recipes and the Hendricks suggests that you use a slice of cucumber instead of lime. I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestions, otherwise I may never have tried these.

Simply stunning. IMO, much nicer than the Bombay. FWIW, my usual is "Gordons".

Their slogan at one time was: "Go with Gordons!".

Glad you like it. I much prefer the Desert Juniper to their high test. The Bendistiller product I really like is their pepper infused Vodka.

It turns out the real flavors in a chile pepper are in the oils, which are alcohol soluble. If you want an out of the world Bloody Mary, use flavored vodka, not flavored mixer.

OK, LETS GET DOWN TO BRASS TACTS, I went to the super tonight and looked for Hendricks gin. They had it at $29.00 per 750 ml. The Bombay Sapphire is $16.99 and the Tanqueray $13.99 on sale. Well I really wanted to try the Hendricks based on Phils reco BUT at 2x the price I went for the Tanq. And I must say that I love the Bombay Sappfire! But the Tanq is really good too! Oh and I must admitt that I like a bit of fresh leamon in mine over.

16.99 is cheap for Saphire, here is is about 24.00 and the Hendrick's is still 29.00. It is worht +5.00 over Sapphire but 12.00? I dunno.

After a few weeks of drinking - hic, hic - I've come to this conclusion:
Hendricks is the tastiest. Bombay Sapphire second tied with Desert Juniper. Will try Tanqueray 10 next, but me thinks Hendricks is just too unique. Especially with a slice of cucumber. I've got a glass of the Juniper and it's quite good. A little more bite than the others, but I like that.

Cost in one local store: Hendricks $25, Juniper $24, Bombay Sapphire $19. Will go to the largest liquor store and see if these prices are similar. $5 is one drink at a bar and Hendricks is worth that, imo.

I was looking for a recipe that contained Kumquats when I stumbled upon this and thought of this thread.
Being someone who likes Kumquat, even I thought this sounded like it would taste good.

2 oz. of gin (the drier the better, but Hendricks is fine)

1 oz. of elderflower cordial

1/4 oz. of honey simple syrup

Zest of 2 kumquats

Juice of 2 kumquats

3 dashes of Angostura bitters

Combine the ingredients in a shaker, including the juiced kumquats, and muddle. Add ice, stir, shake (Yup, both. Trust me.) and serve neat with a thin slice of orange or a twist.

Surviving is essential, thriving is incredible!

I usually just go for Beefeater. I'm not a real connoisseur; I usually just have a gin and tonic (or for sentimental reasons mix some Gilbey's and Wink)

I can't find Hendricks around here, but we tried it in Berkeley, and my sister converted.

I'm surviving summer on the local Bendistilery juniper shaken with a sprig from a huge patch of fresh mint we have by the river.

Hendricks is the best.
I've also got some Lyme Bay Damson Gin, but haven't opened it yet.

My normal one is Gordons (best consumed as 2 measures Gordons, 1 of Stolly vodka and one of La Fee Verte.)

If God hadn't meant us to ski, why did He give us mountains, snow and gravity?

I wish I would have known about that when I was in Bend. I would have brought a bottle back with me. I'll put that on my list for next year.
