If I post a topic saying brand x ski is the worst ski ever made, will you guys take the bait & post 32 replys & counting like at the skiing in the states is boring thread?
While I sit here laughing at how I stirred things up?

Elan stealth. 45mm waist. Even magazine reviews which never say anything bad about any ski said "inspires caution" - aka unstable at any speed.

Mark IV's - I had a pair (170, THX) They were great in their day..(the 70's, not '80's)

I agree, Why waste time on that bone head, "skiing in the states is boring". I'm amazed at how all thoes people fell for that. I'll waste time on this one because at least your from the GOOD OLD USA.

It's a toss-up for me. Either the original Dynastar Course SL with the red damper in the tip (Delam'd 3 pair) or the original Fischer RC4's (Delam'd 1, and blew sidewall in the other.)

The Olin IV's were always too soft for me, even though I love the bumps. I preferred a ski I could feel & drive with. The PR's are nice. You know, if you like to ski with NOODLES on your feet.

Very interesting Alta! You're guaranteed to get a few reactions from the people who believe it's the greatest ski ever made. Having only taken one run on the things (on a groomer to boot) I really can't judge it properly. I did feel like the tail wasn't even there- from observers watching they told me it was just bending. I don't imagine the G4 skis like that on groomers at all, and I know the Atomic 11.20 doesn't cause I tried that one.

It certainly isn't a ski that likes agressive input. It's definitely not suited to your style at all! I don't you see ripping huge arcs on these things through heavy snow. They'd probably fall apart half way down.

Still, a lot of people really like them.

I beg to differ. Hexcels were some of the best skis ever made; I still have my Spectralites. The Olin Mk IV was the worst, except for the color, which was great.
Fortunately, I have a pair of Fischer Glass 707s with cable bindings in the same 'safety orange' color.
I bring them all, and listen to Todd Rundgren and Yes tapes while driving up to ski in my 1974 VW Dasher. With gas costing 55 cents/gallon, and lift tickets only $12, it's a cheap day's fun.

Substitute K2 Winter Heats for the skis and Pink Floyd for the Todd Rundgren and everything else is a blast out of my past. To paraphrase Yogi Bera, it's like deja vue all over again!

About 22 years ago someone (I think Burton) made something resembling a short fat ski and mounted two staggered bindings sideways. The "SKI" imposes a mental response to begin side slipping down every piece of terrain they could find and congregating at the bottom of lift ramps.

This had to be the response of a bad acid trip in the late 70s. Unfotunately, the drug problem in the US school system is wide spread enough to keep the dimented sport of knuckle dragging around...

I tried the Scratch FS yesterday. That's pretty bad, it feels like a snowblade with long rubber extensions on it.

Graves were the first thing I thought of too when I saw the thread title. I have an old pair of Graves "Hot Dog" in the rare orange color that I purchased at the factory in Newburyport Mass. A few years ago I spent $5 on a pair of 210cm Graves "SKI PATROL" they look closer to jumping skis than alpine skis, wide, long, and heavy!

And they still do! Bob Burns, the originator of The Ski, is still making skis, though he is now in Sun Valley. A soon to be ex-buddy of mine bought a pair . . . . and he loves them!

I wasn't a big fan of my Dynastar Team SF's. Had I had better skis, I'm sure I'd be a better racer today. They just weren't fun.

As for crap factor, Technos take the cake. Has anyone ever seen a brand new pair?

Also, they had these Kastles a while back where the topsheet was the same as the base.

PRE? the first couple of years, the skis were real good, the ones that came out of the K2 factory, 1200, 1200SP. Teh ones that came out of the Head factory were mediocre. Later year skis were pretty lousy skis though

The SKI? Great ski in its day, the quintisental bump ski,

Fritzmeyer, a 170cm ski that came with weights to make it "feel" longer

I had a pair of "The Skis" in the late 70s/early 80's(?) - they were red with the silly squares, and had "TRS" letters on the tails. I guess this stood for "The Racing Ski". Out of the box, they were really great. BUT - I think they disintegrated internally with each run down the slopes. They went from a lively slalom ski to a wet noodle in very short order.

I have to agree with the Fritzmeyer from the late 70s. It was very short and had little weights to add to the tip and tail according to how long you wanted it to ski. (Take a 170, add a 1/2 lb. to the tip and tail and presto, you have a 205.) This is when the GLM teaching method was big, and the height of the "short skis suck" era. So the Fritzmeyer was not only the stupidist (is that a word?) ski every made, but it's timing could not have been any worse.
