If your skis were a car...

The use of vehicles as a metaphor to describe particular skis is very useful when describing performance aspects to non-skiers or newbies. Your skis, like your car says a lot about you.

This was alluded to in the "de-tuning slalom skis" thread and got me thinking.

If your skis were a car, which car would they be, and why?

I'll start

My Volkl 724 Pros are like a four wheel drive pick-up: Fast on the smooth but really happier in the rough.

Skis to me are no more than tires/ The Skier is the engine and chassis.

SOOO? what are my skis like when I am on them?
Ever seem a racing truck 18 wheeler??

Well, this is interesting, because I've often heard this sort of metaphor applied to Volants. I would say they ride like a Cadillac Sedan DeVille (I'd say Rolles Royce[sp?] but I've never been in one), but they're built like a Delorean.

The heaviness of the complexity fuels the force behind the dart that hits the mark.

My old Kästle Super-Gs are a Dodge Super Bee.
I'm hoping my new Fischer WC SCs will be a Porsche 928S or 944 turbo.

This is how i regard most of my slalom skis, no frills:

In addition to the Ultima, a Koenigsegg CCR, and Ferrari Enzo might be good descriptions of my race skis (GS/SL).

I Ski.

All-Mountain: A common descriptive term for boots or skis that are designed to perform equally poorly under a variety of conditions and over many different types of terrain.

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.

Stockli SC & SL's are kinda like my car, an 00' C-5 Vette.

It can corner (1.0 g's on the skid pad)

It can accelerate purty quick .. 0 to 100 in under twelve ... top of 171.

Like the skis, I'm not saying I do them or the car justice.

Top of the new C-6 is 186 .... stock "out of the box" base 6 speed, base car.

I was going to say that the b5s are like a Porche Cayenne for the same reason, but I've not driven one.

The RX8s are more like an Acura NSX. Not really a race car, but almost.

I think my Dynastar Omecarve 10s might be like a Mini: Corner like nothing else, and accelerate fast, but lack a little in the top end simply because they are so damn small.

This is nice but to participate I´d need as much experience with cars as I have with skis. Which, unfortunately but logically, I don´t have.

Otoh, our SNOW mag published its own small ski test last winter where ski were compared to WOMEN. A very unusual, original, and, yes, controversial idea. Probably impossible in US. Done in a very decent and intelligent way but some sexism still involved, at least according to your standards, I guess.

Sorry, didn´t want to hijack the thread.
Btw, I wasn´t involved. I just saw it when it appeared. They told me later they were afraid of what I as the mag´s ski test and gear expert would say...

I will believe that when I see it. Maybe with $15,000 worth of mods.:

Mind you, I can think of a few 4-cylinder Suzukis that will outperform the Corvette on a road course.

The Imprezea STi will outrun a stock Corvette off the lot...and you won't be replacing your alternator and water pump after 60,000 miles. Plus you won't look like one of those guys with self-esteem issues.

My P40-platinums reminded me of my Mini Cooper. Zippy, agile, but just a notch above a 2 seater in versatility.

My SX-10 reminds me of a Beemer 330. Fast, accurate, dependable, and fairy comfy.

My aging Volkl Vertigo reminds me of my '98 Pontiac minivan. Huge yawn factor. It gets me where I want to go. No muss, no fuss, but no excitment.

Are you saying that you do have sufficient experience to do this?

BTW, is it on the web (in English)? I'd love to read it!

My Volant Platinums were like a Volvo XC90. Heavy, solid and would go through anything.

My Elan Steaths are like a Lotus Elise, nimble, tight and nervous like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs

My Father-in-laws Dynastar 64's are like my Miata. Looooves the turns.
