To all you Volant experts out there: what Volant should I buy to replace my old T3 Powers (dimensions 108/73/96)? They are 185s (I weight about 165 lb).

Platinums in a 170-175.

I will have a pair for sale in 170 if you are interested. 10 days on them. For sale w/ or w/o Salomon S900 bindings.

Another option you could consider is a last years model. I have been skiing on a Ti Power (same dimensions as the original Power Carve) for about 5 years and this winter I bought 2 Volant Machete Souls (a 175 for my son and a 180 for me) from e-bay for $249.00 US brand new in the wrapper. This ski is 109-72-99 and handles soft snow and crud as well as the powercarve but has alot more edge grip on hard snow and ice and is far more stable at speed. I bought them in December but there was still availability of several pairs by different sellers at that time. The Gravity 71 is another close equivalent ski and was also listed. I`m not sure that the new line is a great improvement on the "second generation" skiis made in Austria by Atomic and if you can still get them for about $250 its a great value.

The trouble with last years ski both the Gravity's and Machete's is the wood core. They bend, I know, we bent 3 pair. This years ski had a synthetic core and is much less apt to bending.

I reccomend the Volant Genesis in 180 if you are still looking for an Ice / Speed Ski. They are light, stiff and VERY fast, just don't get into the sluff. Go to Sports Authority, they picked up a big left over batch of Volants and are blowing them out $150 a pair. (That's a $750 pair of sticks retail!) The 05 Volant Genesis has a very nice built in riser and a VERY radical shape compared to the old super carves. Super narrow waist and sharp edges make them a GREAT ice ski.

What happened on the mountain to bend the skis? The reason I ask is twofold. One, I'm looking at picking up an additional pair of 2004 Machetes (I'm really liking my Sins and am considering purchasing some FBs). Two, I have put about 20 days on my Machete Sins and haven't had any problems. I have punished these skis through everything imaginable (mostly big steep moguls) and they haven't had any issues.

You know how long I have been on Volants.. I never bent any "full metal jackets" I bent some Machete Truths, in the bumps, Gravity 66's in the crud and my son bent his Machete Souls, not sure how, but up at MRG. None of these skis had more than 10 days on them.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice.

My next-door neighboer bent his pr of Genesis about a month ago. It appears that last year's models might not be the bargins they first appear to be. I destroyed one pr of skis last year in the bumps so am not quite ready for a repeat. And, yes, they were part metal.

My antique Ti Powers have lost a bit of camber but are not bent. And my even older pencil Volants I retired, unbent, when the binding heel broke.

Is it possible that the newer Volants that have bent are the ones using the "composite" core construction and not the wood cores? It wasn't entirely clear from any of the posts whether any of the Volants that have been bent used the newer wood cores.

Just set me straight here. Thanks.
