Nordica "The Beast" Ski Boot

Hi,

I just wanted to get a general sense of how is the Nordica "The Beast" boot from those of you that have had the oppurtunity to use it.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I've been skiing Nordica boots ever since they changed their fit in the mid-90s. Until I got my Beasts I had been using the various Grand Prix models just below their ultra-stiff race model. The Beast is a vast improvement over those boots (which I really liked.)

The Beast is lighter than the older Nordicas. It is easier to get into. The buckles work well, maybe too well.....it is very easy to overtighten them. The Outlast liner works. My feet stay warm even on the coldest days. My friends always have to go in to warm up their feet before I do, even those that have had extensive custom work done (I have had none). The liner is plush with a thick, comfortable tongue. To top it off the boot comes with a real Booster strap. In my opinion it is one of the top non-racing boots on the market.

After trying different boots, I ended up with the Beast. It is a very comfortable boot that is pretty responsive. In terms of a precise, very tight fit, the Langes I tried on would be slightly better for my feet, but they were too stiff for my taste. I could tell my feet would get tired quicker-- no shock absorption. The Beast heel is not as narrow as the Lange. Getting the Beast on and off is easy-- a priceless feature. And the Outlast lining does keep your feet warmer than most boots. I love my boots.

But as most skiers will tell you, buy the boots that fit that also match your skiing. And custom fitting really can make a difference.

My son and I have skied the Beast for the past 2 seasons and love the boots for anything but racing. Cannot say enough about it. We are both ex teachers and coaches and ski precisely and aggressively. These are the first non-racing boots either of us have used and we both love them.

Strange thing is that they fit both of us well even though I am tall with a long narrow foot and my son is short with a wide foot. Other than custom footbeds neither of us had to do any modifications on the boots. Will buy another pair next year.

Why buy another pair next year if the pair you have are fine?

I just switched to skiing on Nordica skis and in their boots. They gave me a Beast and a Doberman 130 pro. I skied in the Beast on Friday. It's great. I'll echo what Rio had to say and add a couple of points.

I'm a size 8E in a 26.5 boot. More than likely I caould have gotten into a 25.5 Beast, however, the Doberman might have been a little snug. It's very easy to get in and out of. I can already tell it will be a great teaching boot on cold days. It seems very wide in the forefoot.

I'm going to try the Doberman tomorrow.

I just tried a Beast on today -- the cuff came up so high l I felt like I needed a garter belt. I'm 5'4". The foot was way comfortable, though, my boot guy says it will be a great model to recommend to students. I'm going with either Dobies or Lange Comp 120s.

Nordica rep. or not. If you have an 8E foot and you are honest, the Dobe's will not be for you. Good luck getting your feet into them!

I didn't care at all for the heel pocket and closure - felt really disconnected to me, but I haven't skied it and of course YMMV.

I am skiing in the boot and they are wonderful. This is the "pro" model which is a semi plug boot. If you haven't been in the boot for a while you will be surprised. Skiied today with Bob Booker who is in a 110 pro with a "D" width foot.

Only because of the number of cumulative days on them. I also work in a shop and can get a new pair at a reasonable cost. I will sell the old ones to a friend or on Ebay. If I did not work in a shop I would ski them until the liners were compressed.

Tecnica makes boots with a high volume last (HVL). They are advanced but not expert boots and I would think that an 8E width would require some work even in that boot. I have been able to fit 3-4E in the boot without modification but have never fit such a wide foot as yours.

WOW! Am I surprised!! I have a 9.5E. When I tried to get into this boot, I just could not do it. I am talking pain. It was my first choice for a very stiff boot. After trying on quite a few boots, I went for the Lange WC 130 MF. Very comfortable. Stiff, but not as stiff as the Dobe, or the Lange L10 of yesteryear.

You put on an old Doberman WC soft or medium, not a new Pro.

Even I can get my fat foot into the 110/130 new boot, though it would require sixth toe and width work like all boots that don't ski like crap do for me.

Must be doing something right

I was fortunate enough to have a friend who had a pair of beasts that fit my feet. Most comfortable/snug boot I've ever worn. Unfortunately, none of the local shops carry it in my size and I'm being told that Nordica isn't producing them any more. It looks like I'll be "settling" for the Speedmachine this year

Nordica still makes it....the speedmachine is a stiffer boot. If you know your size why not search the web for it. It has been a great boot for the past 3 seasons (1st one it was not sold publicly) and it still is. Nordica just stepped up the ante with the speedmachine and also is making a softer version of the original beast.

I have skied it for 2 years and it is great....no negatives for me.

I just picked up a set of beast 12's this year (model right below "the beast"), and I'm loving them. The attention to detail is great, with the neoprene toebox (if you have freakish toes) and integrated booster power strap, for starters. With my wide forefoot, they were the only boots that felt good to me, and after the hotform, it was like a very tight, yet comfy, slipper. I dropped 1.5 boot sizes because the last bootfitter I had sucked. These boots rock. After 3 days, the cramping is gone and I'm able to run almost no pressure on the bottom buckles without any loss of power transmission or feel. Can't wait to get footbeds to deal with my arches (got super high ones).
