What *obscure* places have you skied?

A post below (Nov. 2000) got me thinking about where I've skied in my life. I'd like to ask a tougher question (if anyone even reads this section).

What are some ski areas you've skied where you think NO ONE else on this board has. Backcountry and backyards not included!

For me, I'd say that very few, if any have skied:

Victor Constant Ski Area, West Point, NY
Saas-Fee, Switzerland
Flachau/Wagrain, Austria
Berchtesgaden (sp?), Germany
Ober Gatlinberg, TN
Wolf Laurel, NC

Ober Gatlinberg, TN??

Who's name is that?

I never skiied TN before I moved to Utah from there, but
from my summer experiences i cannot feeling any need to explore ober Gatlinberg.
I really think that is the redneck term for their "tram".

Our last 'obscure' ski visit was Mt Potts, New Zealand. A cat ski operation at the former Erewhon skifield in a beautiful valley within the Southern Alps. We got in this old army truck and they took us up this narrow track that is supposedly a road, until you get to the snow line, then you go by cat.

The Erewhon valley was used as the set for one of the battle scenes in the 'Lord of the Rings' triology that has been filmed in NZ. If you ever go see these movies, remember it was all filmed here in NZ.

Good point. I thought it would be obscure because everyone would drive by and never ski it. OK, I withdraw Boreal and substitute with:
Pomerelle (Idaho)

I would have forgotten Pikes Peak if not for your post. Skied a race there in 1963(???). Reminds me of another little area outside of Grand Junction whose name I cannot remember (abandonned when Powderhorn was built).

How about Arapahoe East (just outside of Denver on the south side of I-70) and Turkey Creek just west of where Chatfield Reservoir is now. Or Guanella Pass (I think it also operated under the name IndianHead if memory serves) between Georgetown and Bailey.

Vue des Alpe in the Swiss Jura (great view of the Alps across the Three Lake region hence the name).

Metabief in the French Jura.

Flaine in the French Haute Savoie. Not really obscure if you live in the region.

West Mt. in Glensfalls NY , Big Rock Candy by Saranac Lake NY , and how about Mt. Phonicia in the Catskills also NY and Ski Hickory in Warren Co. NY. Some still open , some not . Then there is Ski Plattekill in the Catskills also . When I first started skiing there were a few hundred small family run ski hills in NY , most of them have folded but a few are still around , like Willard Mt in Easton NY.

Warner Canyon outside Lakeview, Oregon. It was opened in 1973 with some other resort's discarded t-bar. I cracked a bone there trying to do a 'Snidely' in 2 feet of mashed potatoes in 1973 while there with my high school ski team. Took my son's high school ski team there in 1999 and they still had the same t-bar and the same lady at the mid-station yelling at the kids.

In Bozeman waiting for first contact
