South American Skiing

Anyone ever ski south america?

I'm looking at Chile/Argentina. Portillo just north of Santiago in Chile. My reasoning behind that is its really the only place in south america that I've heard of.

So has anyone ever skied south of the equator, and if so, any tips?

did Argentina this year.

LOVED IT! Skiing was not absolutly fantastically fabulous but definatly enjoyable. They dont seem to have black runs, but there is plenty of off pieste and cat skiing is very good too.

I skiied Las Lanas and Bariloche and they are both decent.

Bariloche is more picturesue by far but Las L is bigger.

I suggest that Las L is better as there is only 1 lift company, not 2 as at Bariloche so you have to chosse which part of the hill you ski on very carefully!

it was inexpensive and the Argentinians are wonderful people.

I am probably going to do it again this year if I get a chance.

have not done Chiile but understand it is more expensive and about equal quality

I will say it again, the Argentinians are wonderful people and they make it a really great place for a ski holiday.
